We at Discovery Immunology are seeking a Senior Principal Scientist or an Associate Director – stromal cell and immune biologist who will have scientific and managerial responsibility for a group of scientists conducting in vitro and ex vivo research in the context of immune-mediated diseases. This individual would have responsibility to formulate and implement strategy and approach to targeting stromal immunity and inflammation and to facilitate collaborations with scientists across functional groups within a drug discovery team.

Key Responsibilities

  • The major focus of this position will be to establish in vitro and ex vivo capabilities for identifying novel targets and evaluating novel therapeutic agents in stromal cell-mediated immune response and inflammation, including understanding the role of fibroblasts in immune mediated diseases.
  • Additional responsibilities include support of identification and validation of novel disease and target specific biomarkers, as well as support of the development of new pharmacodynamic models for evaluating new stromal cell and fibroblast targets and therapeutic agents.
  • Other responsibilities include: supervise technical staff with extensive scientific knowledge.
  • Prepare, review, and deliver scientific presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Interact with senior management and key opinion leaders.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Ph.D. in cell biology, immunology, or related field, with more than 10 years’ post-graduate experience in stromal cell immunity and inflammation research. Strong knowledge of drug discovery process and experience in the Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology sector will be a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of the Immune-mediated and Inflammatory disease areas such as autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, inflammatory bowel diseases, atopic skin diseases, with a strong stromal cell/fibroblast background being essential.
  • Extensive understanding of in vitro and ex vivo models of stromal cells such as fibroblast and its coculture with immune cell types, and experience in designing in vitro and ex vivo studies to assess target and drug mechanisms of action, is also a must-have.
  • The position will require strong scientific and managerial skills and the successful candidate will have proven leadership ability, a strong collaborative style, excellent communication skills, and a publication record in peer reviewed journals.
