Leidos’ SDA Operation, in conjunction with the TSA, also performs on-call, onsite installation servicing of X- Ray Detection Equipment using leading edge technology to ensure the safety of our clients, customer and passengers. The Security Detection and Automation Operation is comprised of four divisions to align with our customers’ missions and needs:

The Leidos Security Detection & Automation (SDA) operation currently has an opening for a Research Scientist. Leidos designs, manufactures, and maintains an extensive product line of aviation inspection equipment, luggage inspection solution, and explosives detection systems. These products employ a variety of advance physics techniques including X-ray, RF, high energy radiation, Ionization analyzer. The research scientist will join a research team and be responsible for product development and enhancements. Candidate will contribute his mathematics and physics knowledge to perform theoretical model and develop complex algorithm for security system. The successful candidate will be a key member of the SDA advanced development group with primary responsibilities for research and development related tasks. These will include product specifications, system modelling, algorithm development, and providing guidance to product development engineers.

Required Education and Experiences

  • Ph.D. or equivalent experience; background in physics, math, computer science or related engineering or science discipline
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills is required
  • Work in team environment
  • Lead preliminary and critical design reviews during the product development process
  • Provide regular project technical status reports to management
  • US Citizen or Green Card Holder
  • Ability to travel up to 15-20%

Desired Education and Experiences

  • Experience with volumetric image reconstruction, image and signal processing, Fourier analysis, and/or methods of machine learning is desired
  • Familiarity with modern deep learning methods (eg., deep convolutional neural networks) and tools (Tensorflow, PyTorch) is preferred
  • Experience with C/C++ and CUDA is desired
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB, and/or R is desired
  • Experience with data analysis and statistical methods is desired
  • Experience developing simulations / models, monte carlo methods, methods of moments, and/or finite difference methods is desired
