Position Summary:

The Manager of Labor Relations reports to Vice President, Labor Relations, with responsibility for strategic labor relations matters throughout North America for Penske Transportation Solutions. The job is for someone wants to focus on labor law, and who likes working in a fast-paced, growth-oriented business environment which presents daily challenges on labor relations issues.

This position will be based out of Penske's corporate offices in Reading, PA or Dearborn MI.

Major Responsibilities:

Support Penske Transportation Solutions through the following:

  • Work with Labor Specialists and Labor Directors who support strategic initiatives for the Labor Group.
  • Oversee training program and conduct supervisor and management training in conjunction with Human Resources colleagues regarding labor law compliance;
  • Oversee and conduct risk assessments; advise management on ways to reduce potential liability
  • Conduct due-diligence and provide labor relations advice on mergers, acquisitions, new business ventures, business consolidations and reorganizations.
  • Ability to manage the preparation and presentation of charges related to the National Labor Relations Act. This may be completed with internal staff and/or outside counsel.
  • Provide advice on interpretation of collective bargaining agreements and arbitrate grievances when necessary.
  • Analyze predictive analytics and advise Senior Management regarding labor and employment initiatives that support company goals.
  • Provide advice and counsel to Senior Management in all areas of Labor Law.
  • Lead the development of process and procedure improvement in a metrics-driven environment.
  • Lead new processes and projects as assigned by the VP of Labor
  • Ability to work cross functionally to support legal compliance, and negotiation of collective bargaining contracts

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Labor/Employment Law or union operations experience
  • Prior experience successfully managing and negotiating collective bargaining agreements, handling arbitrations and union campaigns preferred
  • Experience in successfully managing NLRB charges.
  • Experience in conducting Labor Relations due diligence in acquisitions and mergers.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Juris Doctorate preferred; Bar admission preferred.
  • Labor law firm experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills
  • Strong presentation and training skills
  • Desire to work both tactically (hands-on) and strategically.
  • Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
  • Willingness to travel as required by the needs of the business
  • Willingness to work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening are required.
