Infrastructure Engineer

We are in search of a Infrastructure Engineer for our rapidly growing infrastructure community in Whiteley. This team are at the center of driving innovative solutions and proposing new software development practices for our company. The successful candidate will be working across multiple digital transformation programmes, including the transformation of the UK’s biometrics platform to cloud for one of our key customers.

We are looking for a Support engineer with experience in vMware products Ideally vCenter ESXi and vROPS, any exposure to NetApp FAS based storage or CISCO UCS is an advantage.

We pride our success on teamwork and close collaboration with colleagues and our customer in an exciting and defence environment delivering technical service in a dynamic ITIL environment.

Role Description:

The engineers responsibilities include:

  • Managing Morning checks and any subsequent remediation.

  • Proactive review and response.

  • Monitoring the estate for issues and acting accordingly

  • Using the customers Case management system Service now.

  • Working with vendors and their support representatives to resolve issues or hardware failures.

  • Assisting in Upgrade rollouts and patches.

  • Ability to follow documentation and processes.

  • Ability to update documentation when necessary.

  • Production of implementation and rollout plans.

  • Production of test plans and test procedures.

  • Test execution of build to confirm fit for purpose.

  • Handover/training of support staff post implementation.

Required experience and competencies:

  • Working with vCenter and ESXi 6.0 as a minimum

  • Experience with vROPS

  • Perform vCenter and ESXi Patching

  • Excellent ability with Active Directory usage.

  • An understanding of Storage technologies

  • Perform Windows patching from WSUS.

  • Have a clear and logical approach to issue resolution and fault diagnosis.

  • PKI and Certificate Experience

  • Excellent communications skills, organisational skills and independent and autonomous working

  • Experience in ITIL ICT service delivery on critical infrastructure

  • Experience of working under pressure to meet deadlines while handling multiple priorities

  • People skills: able to motive, influence and drive individuals both inside and outside of their direct management

  • Provide up to date and accurate reporting to programme and customer

  • Demonstrable ability to adapt to new technologies, skillsets and to learn quickly.

  • The actual work you will perform consists of a blend of operational support alongside the specification and implementation of new network infrastructure as part of a large, diverse, skilled and collaborative team. Occasional travel to other Leidos and customer sites may be required. Keeping an eye on the technology landscape is essential, too – identification of new and relevant technologies to solve problems and make improvements is part of the job. Typical Minimum Education & Experience:
