Job Description:

The Manufacturing Automation Specialist is a member of the Focus Factory Automation team responsible for the administration and management of process (shop floor) control, environmental monitoring and building management systems at our company’s Teknika facility in Durham, North Carolina. They actively participate in an empowered team culture in support of Manufacturing Operations, including significant interaction with Manufacturing, Quality and Engineering teams. They support a wide spectrum of automation and benchtop systems within Manufacturing Operations, providing opportunities to learn different technologies/platforms and make a positive impact.

Primary Activities include, but are not limited to:

  • General system administration including security & user account management, backup & archival, system patching, and periodic review / performance monitoring

  • On-floor support (as needed) for manufacturing activities

  • Change management – serve as change owner for automaton change requests

  • Configuration management – ensure system documentation (e.g., RS, DS) and system inventory are maintained

  • Incident and Problem management - leads investigations of automation incidents and problems to prevent recurrence including the development and implementation of corrective actions

  • Life Cycle management – support system replacement and upgrade projects

  • Collaborate within the Operations, Quality and Technical organizations to resolve complex problems

  • Support internal and regulatory audits as the Automation subject matter expert

  • Serve as liaison with Divisional and local IT groups

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • B.S. (or greater) preferably in Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology (IT)

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum of 2 yrs. in Process Automation

  • Experience troubleshooting or programming Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and HMI/SCADA systems

  • Experience with Computer System Validation / System Development Life-Cycle (SDLC) methodology (e.g., GAMP 5)

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Allen-Bradley PLC and HMI programming experience

  • Siemens Building Management system (Insight/Desigo CC) experience

  • Understanding of Data Integrity principles in a regulated environment

  • Structured Problem-Solving skills

  • Familiar with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) regulations
