2nd Line Infra Support Engineer

Leidos UK is seeking for an enthusiastic and motivated second line infrastructure support engineer to join our growing team of IT experts in delivering high quality services to our government and commercial customers. We love to work with people who have a passion for infrastructure and tooling, ideally from an operational support services background. You will be self-motivated and be able to work autonomously or in small teams to achieve day to day objectives with significant results on project or operational deliverables, whilst also supporting a variety of activities to ensure compliance with project milestones and customer KPI’s and SLA’s.

The role sits within a multi-organisational team structure, so you must be an effective communicator, comfortable directly engaging with customers and colleagues. You must also demonstrate an analytical and systematic approach to technical challenges. You will be providing wide variety of infrastructure and tooling support, delivering incident and problem resolution tasks while also supporting the Service Desk team, with support from third and fourth line experts as required. The preferred candidate will have a rounded knowledge across different types of infrastructure and be capable of engaging with and learning the principles of design work and managing infrastructure change. The work is taking place within a small team, but with a large impact.

The role can be managed either from the Leidos offices or remotely, with a limited requirement to provide out of hours on call support from time to time. You will be expected to contribute towards the creation and ongoing maintenance of technical documentation and support the creation and maintenance of processes as required.

Ideally, you will:

  • Possess, or be working towards a grounding in a wide variety of technologies including Virtualisation, Linux (Ubuntu), Windows Server environments (incl AD) and networking technologies.

  • Be familiar with collaborative working systems, and ideally include some experience in collaborative environment use, development and maintenance. Kahootz being the environment of choice.

  • Possess some experience in Incident escalation and resolution, and problem management

  • Have a good general knowledge of Microsoft stack technologies such as SharePoint, Skype for Business / Teams, MS SQL, MS System Centre, Office365, MS Exchange & CLI tooling such as PowerShell;

  • Have excellent analysis and problem solving skills, being prepared to take ownership of incidents and ensuring these are resolved to the satisfaction of the customer;

  • Possess excellent communication skills, ideally able to communicate technical issues to less technical staff and managers;

  • Have experience in providing support to others, including Service Desk Analysts while being unafraid to ask for support in turn.

  • Be keen to learn widely and develop a strong career in one of Leidos’ engineering disciplines: Infrastructure, Networks, Cyber, Test, Systems.

  • Have good written English, with ideally some experience of producing and updating technical documentation to a high standard;

Occasional travel to other Leidos and customer sites may be required. Keeping an eye on the technology landscape is essential, too – identification of new and relevant technologies to solve problems and make improvements is part of the job.
