Primary Responsibilities:

  • Successfully complete all required job training, including Epic certification, and keep certifications up to date
  • HL7 FHIR Integration Engineer will lead the design and development of various application integrations to Epic EHR platforms
  • Be familiar with the latest HL7 FHIR version as well as other interoperability frameworks. Maintain proficient programming skills in REST web services, C#.NET, XML, JSON and other relevant languages and/or frameworks
  • Create, present, and maintain program design artifacts like data flow diagrams and end user process maps
  • Elicit and help configure integration tools or platforms necessary to implement bi-directional application and EHR connectivity
  • Lead authentication and security strategy for connections between internal and external systems
  • Review all project related design documents and ensure alignment with enterprise software development standards including change management
  • Prepare cost estimates and monitor actual costs for all development activities
  • Identify emerging technology trends and leverage them in the healthcare industry. Stay up to date on interoperability concepts and standards
  • Analyze, assess, build, and maintain the Epic Bridges interfaces for all data exchange methodologies including: HL7, X12, flat files, web services, FHIR and more
  • Configure interface monitoring options and review and ensure all error messages are addressed according to Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
  • Participate in implementing change management processes for all solution releases
  • Participate in integration testing with internal applications and with external third-party external applications
  • Participate in the evaluation of Epic upgrades and new functionality and implement within a timely manner to ensure customer availability
  • Maintains documentation on all processes and procedures within the scope of job functions
  • Provide on call support for production performance/availability or other critical issues
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of designing and developing HL7 standards Interfaces using any commercial interface engines.
  • 2+ years of utilizing Agile development frameworks
  • Proficiency using an Integrated Development Environment
  • Ability to travel up to 10% annually, USA domestic locations. Travel may be lower depending on project requirements.
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential job function of this role. Candidates located in states that mandate COVID-19 booster doses must also comply with those state requirements. Preferred Qualifications:

  • Epic Bridges Certification
  • Programming Languages Python, Java, C#.NET
  • Understanding of HL7 FHIR standards , data exchange methodologies including API calls
  • Knowledge about OAuth2.0 and / or other integration and security methodologies
  • Knowledge using Postman to authenticate and connect to FHIR endpoints
  • Solid communication skills and can articulate technology vision to senior management

  • Knowledge and understanding of HL7, FHIR integration standards and concepts
  • Virtual leadership experience with ability to effectively drive results, provide feedback / direction, and manage and build relationships with leaders and team members in a geographically dispersed team environment
  • Exhibit excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills and an ability to balance and fulfill multiple priorities
  • Adhere to an analytical approach with an ability to solve complex problems
  • In-depth knowledge of interoperability techniques and best practices for Epic and other EHRs

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $66,100 to $118,300. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $72,800 to $129,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
