What you'll be doing...

Leverage your innovative thinking, solid VDI knowledge, and team mindset in one of the largest Virtual Application and Desktop environments in the world. As a Distinguished Engineer-Tech Strategy with Verizon's VDI team you will have the opportunity to research, recommend, and architect solutions that provide leading edge experiences and reliability across our enterprise. Candidates for this crucial role should have expert knowledge of Virtual Desktop environments, both OnPrem and Cloud, strong understanding of network protocols and topology, and robust troubleshooting skills coupled with critical thinking.

This role will be charged with continuously looking for opportunities to improve our VDI environment through new products, automations, integrations and team partnerships. Additionally, the role will direct and participate in activities required to keep the infrastructure running seamlessly, efficiently, and effectively while ensuring compliance with established standards.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Translating business strategy into effective technology strategy
  • Researching emerging technologies in the industry and create innovative solutions to proactively address new business directions.
  • Navigating technical decisions to create comprehensive architecture plans that provide secure, reliable VDI solutions.
  • Developing, implementing, and communicating approved project plans, timelines and documentation.
  • Collaborating with VDI Operations to provide Tier 3 support and solutions for an extensive hybrid infrastructure.

What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:
  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in Virtual Apps and Desktops, administration and architecture, with a preference for Citrix and Azure.
  • Experience in Network protocols and topology, MFA solutions, and security deployments.
  • Experience managing modern Windows OS platforms such as Windows 10 - 11 and Windows Server 2016 - 2022.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Proficient in at least one programming language such as Python, Java, Nodejs, C#, or PowerShell.
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery tools like Jenkins, GitLab, or Terraform.
  • Experience in observability, such as white and black box monitoring, service level objective alerting, and telemetry collection with tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, LoginVSI, and others.
  • Proficient in debugging and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to provide on-call support as required.
  • Familiarity with site reliability culture and principles.
  • Familiarity with System Designs and Software Architect Principles.
  • Familiarity with Active Directory administration, including Group Policy Objects (GPO) management and Site administration.
  • Familiarity with database relational and NoSQL such as MySQL, SQL, and DynamoDB.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.

If you are hired into a California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island or Washington work location, the compensation range for this position is between $128,000.00 and $238,000.00 annually based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more.
