We are in search of a Lead Wireless Engineer to join our Air Force Enterprise IT as a Service (EITaaS) Base Infrastructure Modernization (BIM) program. As a Lead Wireless Engineer, you will

oversee all technical aspects of one or more wireless LANs and serve as the main point of contact for all technical issues for wireless aspects of the project, as well as manage all subcontractor interface requirements in conjunction with the Leidos Program Manager. Qualified candidates will have a strong technical background in wireless network planning, design and troubleshooting and be able to effectively communicate technical requirements and concepts with both technical and program management personnel. You will work closely with the Government to facilitate effective planning and accomplishment of critical objectives in a timely manner and notify the Program Manager immediately of any problems or issues. Additional responsibilities include drafting and/or approving all engineering documents and reports prior to submission to the Government.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide technical and managerial oversight pertaining to the WLAN across the EITaaS BIM program to a team of network infrastructure engineers and technicians
  • Design, develop, or recommend WLAN network architectures and engineering plans
  • Attend team lead sessions and act as a conduit with the program leadership team
  • Foster your team’s skills, knowledge, and experience to help drive retention, growth, career mobility, and success at Leidos
  • Interface with customer and leadership on a daily basis
  • Engage the client, where applicable, in the strategic design process to translate mission requirements into technical designs
  • Understand & troubleshoot complex situations and apply solutions successfully without reducing customer mission capability or reducing wireless network performance
  • Support the project lifecycle for wireless infrastructure and technology projects
  • Configure and validate secure wireless network systems
  • Assist with change management tasks
  • Providing reports and other deliverables to leadership and senior management
  • Manage and react to system monitoring and alerts
  • Coach, develop, and train staff on standard operating procedures, best practices, ticket documentation process, technical workarounds, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
  • Provide technical guidance to network test lab regarding design baseline and configuration changes
  • Coordinate with enterprise partners on system outages and make decisions on system failover
  • Ensure documentation relative operational procedures, engineering procedures, services, etc., are written and centrally accessible and updated as necessary
  • Collaborate using information and knowledge sharing networks and professional relationships to achieve common goals

Required Experience, Skills, and Education:

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information technology, or other related field from an accredited university and 12+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 10+ years of prior relevant experience. Additional years of relevant experience and/or technology certifications may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Hold at least a Secret security clearance.
  • Hold a network engineering technical certification equivalent to a Certified Wireless Design Professional (CWDP)
  • Hold a CompTIA Security+ certification.
  • Knowledge of commercial best practices and standards for network planning and design strategies, and administration for an enterprise WLAN
  • Knowledge of Department of Defense governance and guidelines applicable to WLAN such as DoD-I 8420.01, AFMAN 91-201 Explosive Safety Standards, AFSSI 7702 (EMSEC), and others as applicable.
  • Knowledge of government regulatory codes maintained by the US and it’s allies pertaining to wireless networks and use of spectrum.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and troubleshooting a WLAN infrastructure.
  • Experience administering WLAN networks protocols and services to include, implementing and managing QoS, NIST/FISMA standards and controls, NAC systems, NMS and other networking tools.
  • Experience with advanced wireless site surveying techniques to include providing predictive heat maps for current and proposed wireless locations.
  • Experience with wireless network performance and health monitoring and response.
  • Experience with IPv4 and IPv6 infrastructures.
  • Ability to write and verbally communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrate poise and ability to act calmly and competently in high-pressure, high-stress situations.
  • Must have a fundamental understanding of accepted government network security practices and customer support.

Preferred Experience, Skills, and Education:

  • Have extensive experience with designing, configuring, and troubleshooting Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) networks to include hardware (switches, routers), software (operating system), network management systems, network access control (NAC), quality of service (QoS), network services (timing, logging, etc.), and distribution systems (fiber and copper cables and infrastructure).
  • Demonstrated experience with an Air Force Customer
  • Detailed experience with Department of Defense governance and guidelines applicable to WLAN such as DoD-I 8420.01, AFMAN 91-201 Explosive Safety Standards, AFSSI 7702 (EMSEC), and others as applicable.
  • Experience in Software Defined Networking and virtualization solutions.
  • Understanding of Zero Trust principles and applicability to WLANs.

Must be a US Citizen and have at a minimum a Secret clearance or be able to obtain clearance before starting position

Pay Range:

Pay Range $108,550.00 - $196,225.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
