Leidos has an opportunity for a Distribution Engineer for electric utility design engineering in New Jersey. You'll be working directly with clients to make sure that Leidos' reputation for high-quality work is always maintained.

Typical Day:

10%-30% working with client remotely

60%-80% Engineering and development of design packages for customer

10% admin/planning/customer follow-up

The selected candidate will be remote to start, with the intention of transitioning to in-office eventually. Candidates must live in New Jersey, ideally in the Trenton to Clifton region (Northern New Jersey) in order for Leidos to provide local support to our utility customer.

As a Distribution Engineer, You can expect to:

  • Independently develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for Leidos electric utility customers
  • Review work provided by Client and assess requirements of scopes.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as: structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design
  • Gain experience in coordinating conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements, assessing and developing large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, work permit development, easements, and ROW applications

What Sets You Apart (Background Requirements):

  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an accredited institution
  • Mid-Level: 2-5 years of relevant experience required
  • Senior-Level: 5+ years of relevant experience required; Relevant experience is either working directly with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company performing electric distribution design engineering
  • Execution of distribution projects from kickoff through design approved
  • Experience with utility reliability projects
  • Previous QAQC experience
  • Previous experience with Customer interaction and Process documentation
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency with the NESC
  • Candidate must live in New Jersey (ideally Northern New Jersey)
  • Ability to utilize a personal vehicle, as some customer-related travel could be anticipated (Job-related travel will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work; Ability to work in outdoor environments on occasion; The role may require customer-site visits to collect field data that will assist in developing work packages

Nice to Haves:

  • Professional Engineering License
  • Experience providing estimated costs, development of a BOM, calculating the CIAC
  • Experience with design tools such as Pole Foreman, O-Calc, Spida-Calc
  • Experience using Distribution Design Studio (DDS) – performing Electric Distribution Design
  • Experience with the Work Management System CREWS
  • Relevant management experience of 1+ years
  • Relevant experience with the utility FirstEnergy, or JCPL

Pay Range:

Pay Range $68,900.00 - $124,550.00
