Primary Role

This role will work closely with customer application development teams and enterprise business solutions to build and maintain shared APIs, message queues and integrations among our custom, COTS and SaaS systems. This role will be responsible for developing and maintaining American Water’s integration services. This individual will assist in defining our IPaaS strategy and manage the lifecycle of tools in this space toward a unified framework that supports all of our needed API and integration patterns. This role is expected to work closely with our architecture, project, product and domain teams to ensure that all API and integration investments align with our company business, technical and domain strategies.

Key Accountabilities

  • Continuously improve patterns, practices, and operational efficiency within the team
  • Evaluate technology choices such as native cloud, SaaS and open source by querying providers, conducting POCs and providing evaluations of each opportunity, including ROI evaluations under projected volumes of use
  • Ensures API and integration security capabilities align with and integrate with our broader hybrid cloud / data center ecosystem
  • Provide design feedback into custom and COTS workloads that would benefit from API and integration services
  • Implement proactive API and integration monitoring and cost management solutions so busines areas and technical domains can easily track, monitor, forecast and optimize their performance needs and costs

Knowledge/Skills

  • Expertise in SAP Cloud Platform Integration Suite with hands on experience with CPI and PI/PO
  • High-level programming and scripting experience (Groovy/JavaScript), and basic system admin skills required
  • Experience with SuccessFactors and Cloud for Energy (C4E) Integrations is a plus
  • Expertise in SAP APIM, AWS API Gateway, Apigee or similar API management tools
  • Monitoring: Working knowledge of Splunk, Loggly, App Dynamics, CloudWatch and or native IPaaS log and monitoring systems
  • Knowledge of capabilities and limitations of cloud technologies
  • Familiarity with agile methodology
  • Demonstrable history of working with SaaS, native cloud technologies and migration processes
  • Knowledge in design and deployment API and integration patterns in a hybrid cloud environment
  • Possess a sound understanding of technologies such as RESTful and SOAP, HTTP/HTTPS protocol usage, proxies, security concepts and controls of public
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and proven ability to work effectively at all levels in the organization

Experience/Education

  • 10 years’ overall experience with Information Technology / Information Systems
  • 6-8 years’ functional / technical experience with custom developed applications / products
  • 5 years’ experience leading or technically leading a technology function
  • Successful experience with implementing strategy across an organization
  • 4+ years of related technical individual contributor experience in cloud service provider
  • Familiarity with various software design and architectural patterns
  • Experience presenting to and interfacing with internal customers
  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science / Information Technology / Information Systems / Accounting or Business or related field of Engineering
  • Masters or MBA preferred
  • AWS Certification is a plus
