What you’ll be doing...

As a Distinguished Lead Data Engineer in the Data Engineering team within the Artificial and Intelligence (AI&D) organization, you will enable our data product driven initiatives and build analytical solutions that are customer focused, highly available, scalable, stable and secure to deliver value to our business stakeholders across Verizon. You will lead the orchestration, design and development of reusable workflows or frameworks in the areas of data transformation, real time data ingestion, perform tasks connected with data analytics, testing, and system design in the big data & cloud environments. This role will outline the ETL process and take a hands-on role in the actual development, testing, implementation and operational support.

This role is part of the Artificial and Intelligence (AI&D) organization which focuses on delivering the power of data and AI to drive our marketplace leadership through innovative solutions that create value for our customers, shareholders, V teamers and society, responsibly. At Verizon, we are on a multi-year journey to industrialize our data practices and AI capabilities. Very simply, this means that AI and data will fuel all decisions and business processes across the company.

  • Gather business and functional requirements and translate them into customer focused, scalable technical requirements.
  • Design, implement, test and operate high performance big data/ cloud ETL processes and data structures for analytics and data science.
  • Provide design, extract transformation load (ETL) development and data management support for targeted Big Data / Cloud analytics applications using best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to source new data, develop schema requirements, and maintain metadata
  • Establish and maintain effective cross-functional working relationships with other IT groups, (including Production Support, Technical Services etc), key business partners and external vendors.
  • Ensures projects follow appropriate Scaled Agile/ DevOps approach for quality, maintainability and security.
  • Work with multiple technical and business teams to oversee execution of tasks such as development and population of data/ETL pipeline, testing results with end/business users and provide operational (production) support.

You have a passion for leveraging data to drive real-world business impacts. You are able to drive communications with diverse groups, and deliver change throughout the organization. You can go deep on technology trends and architectural questions. You have ways to understand and synthesize data to generate key insights

You will need to have

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience
  • Six or more years of relevant experience
  • Proven data engineering experience, with strength in data modeling and ETL development, and extensive knowledge of Big Data technologies
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills

Even better if you have one or more of the following

  • Masters degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Engineering or other related field with 8+ years of relevant IT experience
  • 5+ years of technical hands on Data Engineering experience
  • Experience on data platforms like Teradata, Greenplum, Cloud Platforms, Hadoop
  • Data engineering tech stack including Informatica, Streamsets, Kafka, Spark, SQL, Tableau, PowerBI
  • Experience in handling data security and governance
  • Exposure to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) large containerized environments utilizing Kubernetes
  • Exposure to scaled agile based product development methodology
