What you’ll be doing...

As a Data Operations Engineer, you'll handle end to end data operations. You will be responsible for classification and data provision work including classifying data, securing data and our data sharing policy for the extensive amount of public, private, and confidential data. You'll utilize data cataloging tools such as IBM and Google.
This role is part Data Governance team in our Artificial Intelligence & Data (AI&D) Organization, an exciting new center of excellence supporting all of Verizon, reporting into the Global Network & Technology team.

  • Meet with stakeholders from without our Artificial Intelligence and Data Organizatiion as well as across other business groups, to understand data classification needs and create processes around gathering stakeholder requirements.
  • Create and maintain partnering relationships with business leaders at director and manager level with the capability to provide interaction and executive level communications.
  • Create an automated, scalable approach for data classification issue identification and remediation.
  • Create automated reporting for data classification issues.
  • Work with team members and stakeholders, including Verizon India, to take existing frameworks and evolve them to an efficient, effective, world class Data Classification offering.
  • Collaborate with the governance team, data stewards, and business users to create, deploy, and monitor Data Classification rules.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of classification rule sets and present recommended modifications to improve system performance.
  • Extract, manipulate and evaluate accuracy of existing dictionaries and build processes to improve them.
  • Conceptual, creative thinker with ability to discover patterns in seemingly unconnected data points, and turn them into classification methods.
  • Provide guidance, interpretation and education on specific security policies across requesting organizations related to their projects and applications.

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days set by your manager.

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in data classification.
  • Experience with SQL and Python.
  • Experience with IAM Rule writing.
  • Experience with data cataloging.
  • Experience delivering projects in the data management area: Hadoop, Google Analytics, Data Science, Data Governance.

Even better if you have:

  • A degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, Business Analytics, or a related field.
  • Experience with IBM Cloud Pak.
  • Experience with Data Visualization Tools.
  • Experience with Google Bigquery.
  • Project managements skills, PMP/SAFe certification.
  • Experienced with change management and organizational readiness as part of delivering new capabilities and systems.
  • Knowledge of project tracking tools such as JIRA.
  • Strong communication (written and verbal) and critical thinking.
