As a member of our R&D Strategy Implementation & Operational Excellence team, you will help guide our organization towards sustained growth through 2030 and improve the lives of millions of patients with cancer and other serious diseases. Our team is made up of industry experts who have worked on important projects such as the R&D Integration Office and the Clinical Research COVID-19 Response Team. In your role, you will work across different areas to embed risk resiliency in R&D and lead cross-functional strategic initiatives. You will be responsible for ensuring critical processes and site capabilities are maintained during times of disruption and crisis, as well as strengthening R&D risk resiliency. You will also lead complex programs requiring strong leadership and knowledge of pharma drug development.

Key Responsibilities- Strategy Implementation Lead

  • Leading important cross-functional strategic initiatives through robust strategic change execution methods and best practices with accountability for achieving the expected business outcomes
  • Contributing as a thought partner to initiative leads and sponsors to shape initiative strategies, plans, and solution designs
  • Proactively identifying opportunities/challenges across our business; structuring and mobilizing cross-functional initiatives
  • Fostering a network of senior R&D leaders and functional change agents to accelerate project delivery and ensure project and strategic goals are realized
  • Assisting senior R&D leaders in formulating strategic roadmaps to install and/or improve the R&D operating model (including organizational structures, culture, capabilities, processes, etc)
  • Supporting our Operational Excellence capability deployment strategy which includes continuous improvement projects, training, communities of practice, and business process management
  • Facilitate strategic planning workshops and high priority short-burst projects to advance and achieve strategic imperatives
  • Champion effective change leadership principles and methods; coach/mentor functional change agents and aspiring change leaders on foundational tools and skills
  • As an expert in Business Continuity and Crisis Management, I collaborate with Global Process Owners and Site Leaders to ensure that all BCCM SOP requirements are met annually. In the absence of the R&D BCCM Head, I serve as a member of the Crisis Event Response Team (CERT). I work closely with key functions such as IT, TPRM, and QRM to develop and integrate risk resiliency approaches. Additionally, I liaise with the BMS Enterprise PMO to ensure that R&D aligns with the corporate BCM program and benchmark R&D programs against the industry to share best practices. I continuously scan the marketplace, both biotech and non-pharma, to identify best-in-class business continuity and resiliency capabilities. I partner with the Enterprise Program to develop practical and effective real-world testing exercises for both site and process leads. I also lead document standardization efforts while coordinating with the Enterprise on enhanced digital solution options.

Qualifications & Experience

  • BA/BS degree required; advanced degree preferred
  • 7+ years of pharma industry experience – preferably R&D; knowledge of pharma industry landscape, forces, and trends
  • Basic understanding of site operations, drug development processes, and enabling functions (IT, TPRM, Global Quality)
  • Exposure to Operational Excellence, Six Sigma / LEAN, and business process management
  • Understanding of change management methodologies
  • Experience with strategic planning, project & change management, operational excellence, & financials/analytics
  • Ability to flex and influence across critical stakeholders to drive organizational objectives
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experienced problem solver and facilitator, especially in highly ambiguous situations
  • Commitment and passion for achieving desired outcomes (i.e., value, quality, speed, cost)

BCCM-Specific Skills:

  • Knowledge in Risk Management practices and risk related controls
  • R&D experience with lab operations; participation on Crisis Management recovery team(s) a plus
  • Knowledge of business continuity management applications
  • Ability to align business partners, including third parties (CROs), IT, EHS, Procurement, Facilities, and Global Quality, to drive integrated risk responses
