The Acoustic Modeling Analyst will serve as a senior acoustic analyst for LEIDOS in support of the Threat Assessment Division. The candidate must be an experienced professional capable of performing highly complex all-source, scientific and technical intelligence (S&TI) analysis on the performance of foreign naval sonar systems in specific locations and associated signal processing techniques. The candidate will be required to produce acoustic modeling assessments and prepare graphs and studies depicting threat data. The candidate will be required to author formal and informal intelligence reports and briefs and present analysis to ONI analysts, leadership and a variety of national and theater customers.
Daily tasks associated with this position include:
Conducts acoustic modeling analysis of foreign naval/non-naval platforms and systems and assesses capabilities within geographic AORs. Uses scientific and all-source analysis methodologies and processes to analyze moderately complex S&TI problems related to undersea sensor capabilities and performance. Uses commercial software to include MATLAB, and custom software applications including PCIMAT, to perform modeling analysis. Performs acoustic modeling threat analysis and provides assessments in written, tabular and graphical form for incorporation into the Divisions’ threat assessments and mission support packages as tasked. Conducts numerous Transmission Loss model runs to evaluate different source or receiver geometries and performances. Conducts different seasonal or monthly runs to assess temporal impacts upon operations. Acts as the senior acoustic specialist in support of the Threat Assessment Division and provides expert Acoustic Intelligence (ACINT) assistance to other analysts within the Division. Monitors available blue signature data to ensure the vulnerability assessments are utilizing the most current and accurate signatures. Ensures signature data are completely understood and covers the full frequency regime monitored by all foreign acoustic systems, both mobile and fixed. Performs analysis of acoustic modeling software to ensure the validity of results and makes recommended update to current models and/or additional acquisition. Corroborates findings with acoustic analysts from other ONI Departments to validate assessments. Maintains current and historical acoustic threat data repositories and makes daily entries into Department’s production databases as required. Provides ad-hoc support to Department’s 24/7 watch.
The candidate will represent ONI within the Intelligence Community and other customer-related forums.
