Position Description

The Information Technology team at our Company's Research & Development division (Merck Research Labs - MRL) is looking for candidate with Information Technology skills reporting into the architecture lead. This position will work closely with IT Product Managers across the Regulatory, Safety, Analytics teams to drive definition of detailed business & functional specifications, technical integrations and architecture decisions to enable the development of solutions that directly support business outcomes. You will also be required to complete the appropriate compliance and quality assurance documentation. As a Business Analyst, the incumbent will be required to understand key business strategies and desired outcomes.

You will assist IT and business partners in defining scope, business requirements, schedule, design and estimates for the construction and implementation of technical solutions to fulfill business requirements. The role will participate on a virtual team of cross‐divisional global IT resources focusing on multiple MRL initiatives.

The key activities for this position include:

  • Understanding high level IT and business needs / goals and translating these into Business Requirements
  • Documenting detailed, testable, business and functional requirements for technical solutions
  • Assisting in the development of conceptual mock‐ups or configuration prototyping relative to business interface design
  • Designing and proposing technical solutions targeted at meeting business requirements
  • Ensuring alignment with Governance and IT architecture standards and roadmaps
  • Engaging relevant resources as needed to ensure complete and accurate specifications are defined
  • Working within the confines of a detailed project plan and budget to ensure delivery of technical solution
  • Developing proper system documentation, driving the review and approval process, monitoring compliance throughout all aspects of the system development lifecycle

  • Assessing change requests and potential impact to scope
  • Playing a liaison role to construction, quality control, user acceptance testing and installation personnel
  • Keeping abreast of new development technologies, methodologies, industry practices and standards

Position Qualifications:

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • Candidate with focus in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Business, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems or a related field. Bachelor’s degree with 1+ years of experience or Associate degree with 3+ years of experience in the related field is preferred.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • The candidate should have exposure to Information Technology development or experience in the areas of business analysis, process engineering, or Information Technology solutions delivery work and programming experience in Python, C#, .Net, Java or similar programming interfaces. An understanding of agile methodologies, requirements gathering, data management concepts, design principles, and best practices is required. Good interpersonal and communication skills are mandatory.

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Prior 1+ years of Information Technology related experience is desirable. Skills in the definition of technical solutions, understanding of data models, technical integrations, analytics visualization tools preferred. Strong ability to work independently and a demonstrated ability to succeed in a dynamic and complex team environment are preferred.

Primary Work Site/Schedule

  • Remote/Hybrid: Monday-Thursday (9:00am – 5:00pm US Eastern Time), Preference is to be onsite in Rahway, NJ
  • The fellowship can be conducted 100% remote but full time opportunities afterwards will require to be within commutable distance to our Rahway, NJ site.
