The Opportunity:

This is a rare opportunity to join a start-up hub built within a major multinational with the goal to build a world class data platform / data mesh network for the division.

The Team:

The Data Platform team at our Animal Health Intelligence division of our company (MAHI) provides the development, support, and roadmap for the advanced analytics data platform. The team’s area of responsibilities is the capture, ingestion, transformation, storage, architecture, implementation of ML models and end user consumption end points such as self-service and APIs. The platform provides deep analytical insights for reporting and development of products for the market to aid in animal traceability, monitoring, well-being, actions, and other features based on descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics.

About the Role:

Working at the cutting edge of the Animal Health Intelligence division of our company (MAHI), we seek a self-motivated, well communicative, experienced active hands on AWS Cloud Engineer, specializing in data to join our fast-growing team. As a Senior Cloud Engineer on the Data Platform team, you will be heavily involved with the AWS cloud engineering efforts around EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, Security, VPCs, EMR, Glue, Route53, AirFlow, Jenkins, CloudTrail, EKS, CloudWatch, and IaC. You will also work with the DevOps and DataOps processes as well as with the data platform tools.

You will work closely with engineering, ML Ops, data science, technical and business stakeholders, architects, data engineers, enterprise architecture, cloud teams, and foundational teams to support, orchestrate, and manage most cloud services for the Data Platform Team. There will be a mixture of various environments, which are both within private and public subnets as well as infrastructures and regions.

You would bring your energy and skills to:

  • Overall - Help push the company in the direction of modern cloud architecture with IaC at the core

  • Cloud Architecture – Along with the Solutions Architect, drive and formulate the cloud architecture to support the data platform

  • Stakeholder Management - Manage expectations for all stakeholders from leadership to individuals, possess strong problem solving and negotiation skills, and earn trust of partners and teams.

  • Technical - Develop a full understanding of our technical stack and processes, allowing you to contribute to designs and ensure they are scalable, reliable, and efficient.

  • Evangelize - Represent and contribute to the Cloud Community of Practice to ensure alignment with other cloud engineers across various orgs and be able to share the team’s concerns / issues.

  • Communications - Manage timely and succinct communications to leadership and across teams to ensure accountability.

  • Process - Develop processes for change management and cloud architectural reviews

  • Agility - Lead with an agile first mindset while balancing urgency and prioritizations

What you need to have:

  • Ability to design ground up cloud architecture

  • 5+ years of recent relevant experience as Cloud Engineer and deployment of IT Infrastructure in cloud (and on-prem) environments

  • 3+ years of recent experience in implementing, automating, and AWS integrating infrastructure and services to support big data platforms leveraging resource such as S3, RDS, Kinesis, Kafka, EMR, AKS, Lambda, SNS, etc.

  • Deep hands-on expertise with IaC with TerraForm (preferable) and config management tools such as Jenkins, CloudFormation, CDK, boto3 / AWS SDK, etc.

  • Good experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes,

  • Ability to provision infrastructure on AWS using automated scripts, including but not limited to S3 buckets, Cloud formation, EC2 machines, databases, SNS, and AWS lambda services.

  • Expert in networking and security components (VPC, subnet, endpoints, security groups, IAM roles & policies)

  • Strong system administration experience, including Unix/Linux OS installation / hardening / patching , networking, firewalls, load balancers, SSO, DNS, etc

  • Deep Experience in AWS cloud across IaaS and PaaS services, including compute, storage, networking, containers, serverless, data, analytics, IoT, AI/ML, media, DevOps, and AWS migration & modernization-related services.

  • Significant experience writing code with Python or other language

  • Experience in hybrid cloud and private cloud, cloud architecture, and design patterns. Overall knowledge of OS, middleware, databases, NoSQL, ESB, Integration, APIs, Web services, and REST.

  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and leadership to other team members

  • Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive. You are a self-motivated starter that loves to roll up your sleeves and dive into the details to understand in order to drive your area of expertise.

Additional things that would make you a superstar:

  • Experience leading a team of Cloud Engineers

  • Experience with data platform tools / services such as DataBricks, Collibra, Alation, MDM tools, Snowflake

  • Understanding / hands on experience of data warehousing technologies such as Snowflake and Redshift

  • Experience deploying and managing large Spark clusters through technologies such as EMR and Databricks

  • Experience debugging and deploying Spark-based data pipelines via tools such as Glue, StreamSets, Databricks, EMR, Airflow, etc.

  • Experience with Data Science tools such as SageMaker, DataIku, and DataBricks

  • Experience working in a startup environment

  • Experience with Jira and Confluence

Education:

High School Diploma (Prefer Bachelors degree)
