What you’ll be doing...

Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC) is an emerging technology in the Verizon portfolio focused on enabling low-latency customer use cases by bringing cloud computing capabilities to the edge of the VZ network. The GN&T MEC planning team is responsible for designing and validating MEC architecture and establishing the plan of record for the MEC project through partnership with our design, engineering, operations, product, marketing and sales peers. As part of the MEC planning services team, you will be responsible for developing a suite of MEC-related services such as Edge Discovery, MEC Network Controller, and Network APIs that leverage the underlying MEC and 5G network architecture to expose network services to our internal and external customers.

  • Designing and developing highly available and highly scalable cloud-native solutions to support MEC services.
  • Developing cloud architectures and control techniques for ensuring low latency, high availability, network slicing, and other Quality of Service (QoS) characteristics.
  • Leading integration, automation, and functional improvements around existing security tools and processes.
  • Providing accurate and timely reporting of architectural solutions, and risk findings, and propose remediation & mitigation options.
  • Deploying and managing virtualized resources at scale, including virtual machines, containers, and ‘serverless’ systems.
  • Defining compute, virtualization, storage and data analysis technologies to be deployed at the edge.
  • Developing edge cloud security and resource isolation.
  • Defining dependencies of Mobile/multi-access computing (MEC) with 5G and Cloud networking (RAN, CRAN).
  • Applying practical experience to prototype, deploy, test, and optimize MEC applications, use cases and enablers for internal and public demonstration.
  • Providing technical writing, documentation and presenting observations, findings, and architecture for recipients/consumers from technical teams to leadership.
  • Participating and collaborating in MEC-related industry-standard meetings and forums, assessing start-up companies and proposing MEC architecture for Verizon.
  • Prototyping of new technology solutions.
  • Partnering with Software Engineering teams to execute proof of technologies.
  • Providing architecture direction for engineers in support of a technical pattern and displaying strong thought leadership in pursuit of modern architectural principles and technological modernization.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in the following languages: Go, Java, Python and Node.js.
  • Experience in one or more of the following open source projects: Docker, RabbitMQ, Cloudify, Elasticsearch, CoreOS, Openstack.
  • Knowledge of CNCF tools such as Kubernetes or Istio or Envoy or Jaegar and DevOps tools.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Bachelor’s or a degree in Computer science.
  • Experience with working in technology companies (large internet and cloud companies).
  • Three or more years of distributed software design & development experience.
  • Experience in building Container-based solutions using Kubernetes and/or Docker Data Center/swarm.
  • Experience in OS virtualization and containerization isolation technologies.
  • Experience in developing solutions with Infrastructure as a Service and Configuration management tools like (Ansible, OpenStack, Chef, and Puppet).
  • Strong Scripting Skills (Python, Perl, Bash).
  • Experience in one or more cloud platform security: Cloud Foundry, Openshift, AWS Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google App Engine, Heroku, IoT Edge, or other PaaS technologies.
  • Knowledge of storage technologies and ability to design storage for performance and resiliency, including SAN, NAS, and Cloud Storage Technologies for block and Object storage.
  • Strong statistical and analytical abilities with ability to handle a rapidly changing environment.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes Networking, Architecture, and Operators.
  • Experience in administering and managing consumption of Public Cloud Services in a large multi-team environment.
  • Knowledge of LTE & 5G RAN and Network Core Elements.
  • Experience in Network performance and monitoring tools such as RTT, XLPT, Sevone, Irisview.
  • Knowledge of IP Networking, including Virtual Private Cloud, VPN, SDN, DNS, Load-balancing, and Firewalls, 3GPP, GSMA , IETF standards.
  • Knowledge of OpenStack, Webscale or equivalent infrastructure framework technology in a cloud-computing environment.
