Instrumentation Specialist or Electronic Repair Technician for FirstEnergy’s Instrument Repair and Calibration Group. This job is responsible for hands-on electronic troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of a wide variety of electrical test equipment. Responsibilities include component level repair of electronic test equipment utilizing troubleshooting methods based on review of manufacture schematics and common electronic component specifications. Specialists require a strong understanding of calibration methods and equipment used to calibrated electrical test equipment. Employees work in a collaborative lab environment with other specialists and technicians.

Electronic Repair Technician / Instrumentation Specialist

This position is located at the Central Electric Lab in Akron, Ohio.

Standardized Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates a solid commitment to all aspects of safety by adhering to the Company’s Accident Prevention Handbook and apply this to safety in the workplace.
  • Performs hands-on electrical troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of a wide variety of electrical equipment, which includes Multimeters, Voltage Detection Units, Substation Test Equipment, Fault location Equipment and High Voltage Test Equipment.
  • Ability to conduct independent research, develops alternative solutions, and provides recommendations for improvement in work processes.
  • Professionally communicates with customers, vendors, internal entities, and department sections. Successfully interacts with a variety of levels of leadership.
  • Willingness to perform an Emergency Response role during emergencies and storm-related activities which may include travel to various off-site locations as well as FirstEnergy office locations, training facilities and customer sites, when requested.
  • An employee hired at a higher level will be expected to perform all the above responsibilities with more proficiency, and in a more independent manner, and will be assigned lead and additional responsibilities related to those listed above.

Qualifications:

Qualifications at the Assoc Tech Specialist Level:

  • Associate degree in instrumentation, electronic engineering technology or similar discipline, along with 0-2 years of related job experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in interpreting work requests, engineering drawings, schematics, equipment instruction manuals and procedures to develop accurate work plans.
  • Proficient with PC software applications including Microsoft Office, (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.) along with the ability to learn Industry Software.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, and to manage, organize and prioritize work with attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated with a questioning attitude to continue to learn, produce results, and strengthen existing relationships.
