Optum combines data, technology, and expertise to power modern health care. The Life Sciences Data Development team is responsible for creating the next generation of Optum’s real world data assets.
Optum's industry-leading data assets include clinically-robust Electronic Health Record (EHR) data spanning the care continuum, eligibility-controlled affiliate and non-affiliate insurance claims data, a new class of deterministically-linked Integrated EHR and claims data, rich Natural Language Processing-sourced data derived from clinician notes, and linked profile data including socio-economic information and health risk assessments (HRAs). Optum’s data assets enable our clients to enrich their view of the patient and the patient journey through the healthcare system, serving needs across a spectrum of functional areas including real world evidence, health economics and outcomes research, safety and surveillance, epidemiology, and product commercialization.

As Optum continues to invest in both data acquisition and curation, we’re now looking for a dynamic team member who will define specifications for new data assets, create and enrich data models, and identify and implement data enhancements.

- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to understand user experience and identify new features and functions of Optum's data assets
- Assess new potential data assets for value-add and overlap with our existing data
- Develop enhancements and new additions to our existing data assets, from conceptual design through to development, QA setup, automation, and data documentation
- Ensure smooth handoff of newly developed data concepts to the operations team for production
- Serve as a subject matter expert on areas within the Life Sciences data model

- 3+ years of experience working with claims, EHR and other healthcare data sources
- Experience in Life Sciences
- Experience in SQL or other related languages
- Experience working with relational databases, data warehousing and data modeling techniques
- Experience communicating thru various mediums to a variety of stakeholders
- Knowledge of ETL Process (ETL methodology of Data Extraction, Transformation and Load processing)
- Telecommute is available for this role
- Degree in computer science, statistics, engineering, math, data science or other quantitative related field
- Experience working with any industry-wide analytical and visualization tools (excel, tableau, BI tool, domo, etc.)

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $82,100 to $146,900. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $90,500 to $161,600. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
