Key Responsibilities:

  • Define, publish, and communicate enterprise data strategy, standards, patterns, reference architectures, frameworks, and roadmaps to enable data sharing across the enterprise and reduce cycle time to insights. Socialize strategy with key data and analytics leaders and gain alignment
  • Establish and chair a community of practice that includes information/data architects across all functional areas to develop and promote common data standards, patterns, data definitions, best practices and data reuse across the enterprise.
  • Develop the Enterprise Master and Reference Data Strategy and standard patterns in collaboration with functional data/technology and analytics leaders. Lead data architecture analysis to identify need and rationale for creating new and/or enriching existing master and reference data for enterprise and functional data domains. Develop actionable plans and business case to establish those capabilities and serve as key SME and advisor on execution.
  • Advise senior IT leadership as SME to promote information management best practices and gain sponsorship to mature foundational data capabilities
  • Develop and own the comprehensive metadata strategy and roadmap to establish an enterprise data catalog/marketplace – one stop shop for knowledge workers to find and access data.
  • Partner with BIA and functional data teams to design and align on common metadata taxonomy, standards and processes to make data assets and product findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable.
  • Identify opportunities and define requirements to automate mundane data stewardship tasks related to managing metadata, master and reference data using AI/ML and other innovative approaches.
  • Design and maintain conceptual and logical data models, understand and document data lifecycle and data quality requirements for Enterprise Master and Reference data Domains/products. Serve as the data SME for their usage and adoption.
  • Develop logical and physical data architecture and models for master and analytical data solutions. Serve as SME on optimizing the physical models (through partitioning, bucketing, etc.) and query performance to meet business SLAs.
  • Define best practices and lean governance processes for data management, data quality and data access.
  • Product owner for enterprise data modeling tools and responsible for establishing and driving adoption of data modeling best practices across the enterprise

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 7+ years' experience in data architecture, data engineering, solution architecture and enterprise architecture.
  • Broad and demonstrated experience in enterprise information architecture and data strategy development leading to maturing of master data, reference data and metadata capabilities, preferably in a pharmaceutical industry.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to act as a translator between data and analytics and the business, ensuring business value is achieved through appropriate architecture foundation.
  • Relationship-oriented with the ability to communicate meaningfully and influence all levels of stakeholders.
  • Storyteller with the ability to translate complex technical jargon and concepts into something simple, accurate and understandable.
  • Experience with data modelling, data cleansing, data warehousing, ETL, data integration and distributed data architecture concepts
  • Strong knowledge of agile and DevOps development methodology, understanding of solution design, development, and the data life cycle: data acquisition, data quality management and data governance.
  • 3-5 years of experience architecting and designing data products for cloud data platforms, especially in data lakehouse and data fabric environments.
  • Strong experience defining the data strategy and roadmap, including the data migration strategy, master data management strategy and data and information architecture strategy in pharma industry.
  • Advanced knowledge of Pharma data domains, pharma regulations as well as EU compliance, including GDPR and Data Privacy. Knowledge of clinical data standards (CDISC, SDTM, etc.) and R&D Data format advantageous.
  • Proven ability to manage teams with both direct report relationships and contractor/partner relationships
  • Experience and familiarity with data-centric technologies like Spark, Kafka, AWS Analytics, AWS Glue, Cloudera Impala, Redshift, DynamoDB, Neptune, GraphQL, Nabu, ERWIN, ER Studio etc; experience with advanced visualization tools like Tableau and Spotfire
  • Understanding of semantic technologies, ontologies, graph databases and knowledge graphs, and their application in developing innovative data products in pharma domain preferred.
  • Experience working cross-functionally in large organizations to solve complex problems and treat large amounts of information.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and work in autonomy with limited guidelines.
  • Effective written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
