The Opportunity:

This is a rare opportunity to join a start-up hub built within a major multinational with the goal to build a world class data platform / data mesh network for the division.

The Team:

The Data Platform team at our Animal Health Intelligence division of our company (MAHI) provides the development, support, and roadmap for the advanced analytics data platform. The team’s area of responsibilities is the capture, ingestion, transformation, storage, architecture, implementation of ML models and end user consumption end points such as self-service and APIs. The platform provides deep analytical insights for reporting and development of products for the market to aid in animal traceability, monitoring, well-being, actions, and other features based on descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics.

About the Role:

Working at the cutting edge of the Animal Health Intelligence division of our company (MAHI), we seek a self-motivated, well communicative, individual that is experienced in building modern data platform infrastructure from the ground up. The platform will be end-to-end from the AWS cloud infrastructure, security, data ingestion capabilities via code or low code tool, transformation, 3 tiered data lake, DataBricks, and consumption via self-service capabilities and APIs. This role will also have a strong understanding on data catalog such as Alation or Collibra, Immuta, permissions, and overall knowledge of data platform tool stacks. MUST HAVE HAD HANDS ON EXPERIENCE with all of some of the platform tool stack.

You will have a chance to be part of a greenfield effort in creating the next level modern data platform for Animal Health with data generated from the most modern technologies in the animal wellbeing space and to have an impact on how that data is used to improve animal wellbeing. The position will be a hybrid position or even remote for the right candidate.

You would bring your energy and skills to:

  • Driving the Infrastructure and Tech Stack – You will contribute your experience to working with Enterprise Architecture, Foundational Analytics, multiple vendors, stakeholders, and the Data Platform Overall Lead to drive and deliver the ultimate platform.

  • Delivering on the Platform – Ensuring that any changes, maintenance, coordination of updates, DataOps administration, DevOps, and supporting infrastructure is properly functional.

  • Maintaining the latest technology features – Be aware of and coordinate new feature roll outs for implementation

  • Communications - Manage timely and succinct communications to leadership and across teams to ensure accountability.

  • Agility - Lead with an agile first mindset while balancing urgency

  • You have experience with end-to-end capabilities for a data platform – You know what it takes to build a data platform with infrastructure, ingestion, transformations, data products, data consumption, data sharing, catalog, and storefront

  • You are super confident in your skills – You knows what it takes to build an enterprise level end-to-end data platform

  • You are confident in your AWS cloud skills – Although you may not be a full Cloud Engineer or a DevOps person, you know how to configure IAM, S3 permissions, understand IaC, containers, Kubernetes.

  • You can evangelize – Define and evangelize the adoption of a modern Data Platform, its strengths, and the technical architecture around it

  • You see the vision – You understand both the big picture and the details.

  • You deal easy with change – You can demonstrate adaptability, resilience, and ability to thrive with changes and in ambiguity

What you need to have:

  • 3+ years experience working with a modern cloud data platform, preferably on DataBricks

  • Experience implementing serverless real-time/near real-time architecture using Cloud native services (i.e., Azure, AWS or GCP Tech Stack), and Spark technologies (e.g., Spark Streaming, Spark ML)

  • Deep understanding of modern data architecture including processes for both batch and streaming (CDC + IoT) data as well as modern cloud-based data technology (e.g. Databricks / Spark, Snowflake)

  • Demonstrated experience designing for enterprise-class applications and delivering highly available distributed, fault tolerant, globally accessible services at scale.

  • Create great technical documentation and present on demand

  • Expert on technologies like Big Data, Data Lakes, Cloud Native Architecture, Cloud Security, Data Architecture, Data Orchestration, and Data Ingestion Production support experience with full regard to SLAs.

  • Deep understanding of structured and unstructured data architectures, data lakes, data warehousing, data orchestration as well as tools for data gathering and processing

  • Experience in implementation and performance tuning MPP databases (Snowflake, Redshift, EMR, Databricks)

  • Strong Knowledge and architecting for Data Governance, privacy, and regulations, GDPR

  • Experience with tools like Airflow and data storage formats such as JSON, Parquet, etc

  • Proficiency with AWS cloud services such as: EC2, EMR, RDS, Lambda, Glue, S3, Redshift

  • Programming Languages: Hands-on Python, Shell, Scala, Go, or other language

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication

  • Outstanding presenting skills to both technical and executive audiences whether impromptu on a whiteboard or using presentations and demos.

Additional things that would make you a superstar:

  • Extensive hands-on experience implementing Lakehouse architecture using Databricks Data Engineering platform, SQL Analytics, Delta Lake, and Unity Catalog

  • Strong API development

  • Experience as a Data Engineer

  • Experience with Data Marketplace and self-service analytics

  • Experience with data platform tools / services such as DataBricks, EMR, S3, AWS data services, Collibra, Alation, MDM tools, Snowflake

  • Experience with Jira and Confluence

  • Experience working as a Product Owner, managing own backlog, deliverables

  • Experience building and deploying with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes and leveraging them throughout the CICD process

  • Current understanding of best practices regarding system security measures

  • 2+ years as a solutions architect

$130,960.00 - $206,200.00
