Manager, Data Integration, Research IT Data Engineering

The role of Manager in Scientific Data Engineering Research IT – Data Integration, is accountable for the analysis, design, development, provisioning, and support of data integration technologies & processes to provision upstream and downstream data products to Research scientists. This position will ensure that scientific data from disparate sources is integrated following standard integration patterns using APIs, ETLs and other data integration technologies. This role will work in partnership with a broad range of partners in IT and in Research, including IT Business Partners, Product Teams, software development teams, and vendors to deliver innovative data capabilities while ensuring adherence to data architecture standards and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work as a member of the Data Integration team, dedicated to delivering high-quality data sets for use in operations applications and analytics platforms, to support and accelerate the lifecycle of data from the laboratory to analytics
  • Contribute to the design, development, and support of Research data integration patterns and processes to drive for complexity reduction and simplification of data flows
  • Contribute to the provisioning of data services and API reference capability blueprints across core platforms
  • Build and share knowledge of APIs and underlying logical and physical data models across core platforms
  • Work with upstream and downstream SMEs to understand requirements and identify integration options
  • Document information flows and technical specifications in compliance with integration patterns
  • Work with internal partners and vendors on the design, development and continuous improvement of high performing and secure APIs
  • Contribute to the enablement of scalable and efficient data integration across scientific domains
  • Provide understanding of scientific data types, data ingestion and loading patterns, data transformation & transport options

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience. Alternatively, a degree in a life science discipline with deep computer science or information systems expertise
  • 4+ years’ experience in designing, implementing, and/or supporting technical capabilities including integration platforms, data pipelines, information systems, digital solutions, and information management solutions in pharmaceutical/scientific/R&D sectors
  • Experience integrating structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data in on-premises or cloud RDBMS, No-SQL DBs, and cloud storage services like Amazon S3
  • Experience or knowledge in designing and developing data ingestion, integration, and virtualization platforms
  • Hands-on experience with data engineering tools, and languages, including for example RESTful API, GraphQL API, Spark, Python, Shell scripts, AWS Data Engineering solutions, modern data and web services, AWS DMS, SNS, Lambda, EventBridge, Kinesis etc.
  • Experience using source control systems and deploying in AWS infrastructure and CloudFormation
  • Knowledge or exposure to R&D data types and data flows; data conversions, and data migrations
  • Some exposure to Taxonomy and Ontology development and management, data catalog, data governance and data quality a plus
  • Proven ability to work as a team player with strong collaboration skills

The starting compensation for this job is a range from $94,000 - $118,000, plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).

The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and the geographic location where work is performed.

Final, individual compensation is decided commensurate with demonstrated experience.
