Primary Role

The Enterprise Architect – Data should be able to solve complex technology problems using data architecture and design, while providing technical leadership to the development teams from a data architect perspective. They should demonstrate the ability to apply data technologies to solve practical problems in a technical environment with multi-function teams for large, complex systems with minimal direction. They will help maintain data and data visualization inventory as well as maintaining the data technology roadmap that enables business outcomes and reliably forecast business needs in the 3 to 5-year horizon.

Key Accountabilities

  • Drive the effort to develop data architectures that match short-term and long-term business goals with specific technology solutions to help meet those goals
  • Work with the line of business leaders and industry experts, to ensure the plans help 1) reach a consensus about a set of needs and the technologies required to satisfy those needs, 2) provide a mechanism to help forecast technology developments, and 3) provide a framework to help plan and coordinate technology developments in data architecture.
  • Act as the Industry/In-house expert in data architecture and provide detailed information and advice as necessary in that specialization in order to achieve positive business outcomes
  • Collaborating with other stakeholders to ensure the data architecture is aligned with business requirements
  • Design the relationship between data and Business processes.
  • Understand the relationships between Business Solutions, Data Architecture, Application Architecture and Technology architecture.
  • Capture Data Architecture artifacts in the appropriate architecture repository using the appropriate data architecture tool.
  • Deliver an increase in data architecture capabilities at AW

Knowledge/Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of Data Architecture and design.
  • In-depth knowledge of data modeling standards and industry best practices
  • Be the data architecture thought leader and be capable of providing data architecture advice and guidance on business solutions
  • Strong knowledge of digital technologies and applicability for the water and wastewater industries
  • Proven and demonstrated abilities in Data architecture, design, data analytics, Cloud concepts including Data Lake, Data Ingestion, and Data Virtualization.
  • Experience in establish enterprise-wide standards in managing and implementing data management best practices within a business environment
  • Demonstrated ability to apply data architecture to solve practical problems in a high-tech development environment.
  • Good verbal, written and presentation skills
  • A self-starter with ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with a keen desire to learn and expand depth of knowledge
  • Good Collaboration, prioritization and team working skills

Experience/Education

  • BS /MS in Computer Science, Computer Applications, Information Technology or related field
  • 12+ years’ experience working in the Data technology field required with 5+ years dedicated to the specialty area as a domain architect or equivalent role

Technical Skills

  • Familiarity with agile methodology
  • Understanding of user-centered design principles and best practices
  • Demonstrable history of working with data technologies
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment with virtual teams
  • A passion for working on projects where there is some element of unknown and ambiguity
  • Should be able to work independently and take initiative to find/develop solutions for business requirements.
  • Should be a fast learner with attention to detail
  • Should be receptive to constructive criticism when necessary
