Sr. Principal Data Scientist - Deep Learning - Remote

Contribute to making healthcare more affordable, inclusive, and a modern experience across all Optum lines of business. Use your knowledge in statistics, probability theory, machine learning, deep learning, simulation, and other advanced methods to build and deploy enterprise scale solutions across the Optum business. Work with diverse and massive datasets using big data and machine learning tools such as python, Databricks, AzureML, spark, Ray, pytorch, mllib, and other tools that make the most sense for the problem being solved.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop enterprise scale machine learning solutions using modern development practices with an eye on quality and scalability
- Participate in meetings with business stakeholders, data experts, software/platform engineering, and digital product teams to scope data science use-cases and convert them into scope of work
- Be a storyteller to explain the ‘why and how’ of your solutions to cross-functional teams and senior leadership
- Assess internal data and processes to determine opportunities for application of advanced analytics for broad division-wide analytic usage
- Be a hands-on leader and teach by example by building prototypes using variety of predictive methods while adhering to the ML development cycle (e.g. iterative EDA, prediction specification, feature engineering and model building and long term monitoring)
- Be a thought leader and coach the junior team members in the wide variety of statistical/machine learning methods to attack data science use cases
- Self-drive knowledge accumulation of methods and modeling advances by reading research publications, blogs and attending presentations and webinars

Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in computer science, applied mathematics, (bio) statistics, applied statistics, economics, business, or similar quantitative fields of study
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in developing analytics with machine learning, NLP, and/or other related modeling techniques
- 5+ years of experience using advanced data science tools such as Python, R, MATLAB, C#, Java and/or other related programming languages
- 2+ years of experience wrangling large datasets with big data tools such as SQL, Databricks, Hadoop and Spark
- 2+ years of experience managing analytical projects or data science resources
- 2+ years of experience developing and deploying analytic solutions using AWS/Azure/GCP
- Knowledge of Deep Learning
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with health care data
- Experience with Databricks, AzureML, Sagemaker, Ray and/or Snowflake
- Experience building and deploying deep learning solutions at scale in a cloud environment using tools such as pytorch, tensorflow, Theano.
- Experience with version control (for example Git Version Control system)
- Experience working in an agile environment
- Experience with omni-channel analytics and consumer interaction channel optimization

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island or Washington residents is $101,200 to $184,000. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
