Job Description:

The Defense Health Operation of Leidos is currently looking for an Informational Technology Assistant to support biomedical research at the Naval Medical Research Unit, San Antonio (NAMRU-SA) in San Antonio, TX. NAMRU-SA conducts gap driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research to improve survival, operational readiness, and safety of Department of Defense personnel engaged in routine and expeditionary operations.

Primary Responsibilities

The ideal candidate shall:

  • Set up, maintain and troubleshoot Microsoft Windows desktop and notebook computers.

  • Install and configure Government-approved software.

  • Set up and configure printers, scanners, and other peripherals.

  • Maintain and troubleshoot conference room audio visual equipment.

  • Monitor and verify the integrity of system back-ups and facilitates restore files as needed.

  • Determine the most effective ways to organize documentation associated with new software and hardware installations.

  • Establish, manage, and document a user friendly and efficient process for customers to submit IT work requests.

  • Facilitate the establishment, disconnection, and maintenance of communication connections.

  • Present formal and informal training and assistance to customers on IT equipment and programs.

  • Participate in the development of IT goals, objectives, plans, and policies.

  • Prepare detailed and accurate reports related to IT requests/taskers received from the Command, Immediate Superior in Command, or Bureau of Medicine and Surgery.

  • Coordinate the resolution of computer issues using the help desk ticketing system.

  • Maintain inventory of all hardware and software resources and parts.

  • Maintain excellent communication with all end users and other members of the technology department.

  • Serve as the technical advisor for information technology acquisition and system support.

  • Administer and maintain the Command’s organizational databases.

  • Assess data management requirements and determine the most effective methods to enhance data management practices.

  • Aid in the development of comprehensive instructions for the operation of system components.

  • Work with other Tri-Service IT specialists to set up and maintain command IT equipment/accounts.

  • Analyze and effectively solve problems in a timely and organized manner using industry best practices and procedures, and display the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology and 2 years of experience setting up, configuring, and troubleshooting desktop/notebook hardware and software (Windows and Mac OS).

  • Experience with windows desktops and notebooks in a networked environment, Microsoft Office 2016 and 2019, and Outlook 2016 and 2019.

  • Knowledge of Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) networking, and related network services, and knowledge of Active Directory concepts and administration.

  • Must be able to clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical people.

  • Meet DoD 8570 IAT-II requirements (Security+ certification and CE, plus training or certification in Windows10, the desktop operating system covers the OS requirement). If the candidate does not meet DoD 8570 requirements, they will have six months to complete their certification. This certification is required to be renewed every three years.

  • The candidate will be required to acquire, at a minimum, a SECRET classification access level. Preference will be given to a candidate who already has this clearance level.

  • Due to Federal contract requirements, US citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a structured, process-driven environment is preferred but not required.

  • Experience with DoD IT environment and tasks is highly desirable.
