A Senior Publishing Technology Specialist (SPTS) is responsible for publishing both online and paper assessment test forms for assigned programs utilizing Pearson proprietary systems and tools. Assessment item level xml editing is also required which could include functionality for technically enhanced items (TEI’s), scoring, and accommodations needs. A SPTS could perform accessibility tagging at predetermined rigors for web pages and PDFs. A SPTS may also be tasked to create, design, edit, and prepare files for printed ancillaries materials. A SPTS must utilize automation tools available and apply predefined standards and processes to complete assigned work efficiently, accurately, and on time.

A Senior Publishing Technology Specialist also needs experience with project leadership, workload balancing, and training/mentoring of staff for various required fundamentals essential for continuity across platforms and systems. A high level of knowledge and understanding of online and paper publishing and advanced publishing software knowledge is needed to support key areas of business. Ability to troubleshoot more complex issues and recommend solutions that fit within our end to end technologies. A SPTS will have project lead ownership and the duties and tasks include variety and complexity based on project scope. Assignments require attention to detail as well as adherence to Publishing Technology documented procedures and work instructions. Duties and tasks may vary by project assignment, individual skills, talent, and knowledge.

This person must be able to sit or stand at a personal computer for a reasonable length of time typing and reading.

Ability to handle a high volume of work in a short period of time, handle multiple priorities simultaneously and operate in a demanding work environment is important.

Reliable attendance and punctuality is critical to successful performance in this role.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline or work experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Minimum of one year experience in an educational testing company or publishing environment, preferably educational assessments and/or related materials for an education company in which multi-tasking, teamwork, and organizational skills were required
  • Solid experience and understanding of both Macintosh and Windows
  • Proficient with InDesign and Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Demonstrates strong skills in print and online environment
  • Strong knowledge and experience working with xml, html, and related coding used in online delivery of content
  • A general knowledge of working with SME’s to help create and implement automation solutions
  • Strong understanding of single color to 4-color book print production including pre-press and manufacturing
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and teambuilding skills
  • Ability to learn new technologies and deal effectively with change in an evolving environment
  • Must be able to work well under deadline pressures in a professional environment
  • Work collaboratively in open-office and team environment
  • Ability to effectively manage self; measure, and continuously improve working performance, assigned project success and quality of team and individuals
