SUMMARY

The Publishing Technology Specialist’s (PTS) primary role is to publish both online and paper assessment forms for assigned programs utilizing Pearson proprietary systems and tools within a digital workflow environment. This temporary position within our School Assessment Publishing Services team will mainly support paper assessment form creation, final file preparation for print, or performing accessibility tagging for PDFs and web pages. Responsibilities may also include tasks related to online form delivery; duties and tasks may vary by project assignment, individual skills, talent, and knowledge. This temporary position will be working on large-volume programs with tight deadlines for spring 2022 assessments. Having a strong grasp of graphic design software, such as InDesign, understanding related to print production is necessary. Our content renders for both paper and online deliverables from single source xml files in our Content Management System. It is preferred that the candidates have experience with xml, html, or other coding experience.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • 12 months of post-high school education or formal job training required in graphic or web design and publishing space
  • Comfortable and capable of working in both Macintosh and Windows
  • Proficient with InDesign, Acrobat, and Illustrator. Experience with PitStop Pro preferred.
  • Strong understanding of single color to 4-color book print production including pre-press and manufacturing
  • Demonstrates strong skills for files delivery to print and online environments
  • Prefer experience with xml and html or other coding experience

  • Must be able to work well under deadline pressures in a professional environment
  • Experience or ability to learn accessibility tagging for PDFs or web pages

  • Utilize subject matter experts as needed to perform work successfully
  • This person must be able to sit or stand at a personal computer for a reasonable length of time typing and reading.
  • Ability to handle a high volume of work in a short period of time, handle multiple priorities simultaneously and operate in a demanding work environment is important.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality is critical to successful performance in this role.

Paper item conversion/ preparation for paper print use

  • Item conversion or processing for paper use
  • Paper form(s) builds
  • Print-ready file preparation (Possibly Primary Task for this temporary position)

Accessibility

  • Web page accessibility to client requirements
  • PDF remediation to predetermined rigors (program-specific, WCAG 2.0 AAA and/or 508 compliant)
  • Processing of MS Word and InDesign files for accessibility

Online assessment form and item level work (Experience and Skillsets will determine these tasks as assigned)

  • Online form(s) publishing
  • Item editing
  • Item bank management (conversion, import, export, maintenance)
  • Scoring and accommodations
