Leidos currently has an opening for a Linux Systems Administer to work in our Bowie, MD office. This is an exciting opportunity to be responsible for the technical design, planning, implementation, and the highest level of performance tuning and recovery procedures for program systems. Serves as a technical expert in the area of system administration for complex operating systems. Recommends the redesign and configuration of operating systems and system applications. Investigates and analyzes feasibility of system requirements and develops system specifications. Identifies methods, solutions, and provides project leadership and management in order to provide a high level of service internal and external customers.

Program Summary

This contract is a multi-year contract for the development, integration, deployment and sustainment of large, collection systems. The work that's being done on this Leidos-led, prime contract is extremely important to the government and offers its team members the opportunity to work autonomously. An experienced System Administrator that has both Linux and Windows experience is needed provide administration and operational support to mission and analytic networks. The candidate will need a proactive attitude, strong customer service skills, and the ability to integrate into an existing technical team. To be successful in this role the candidate will need to be strong with Linux and comfortable working with Windows.

Provide system administration / installation / configuration / troubleshooting for mission and analytic networks. This will include but is not limited to:

  • User account management, administration, access/controls and support

  • Installation and configuration of workstations and servers peripherals

  • Kernel parameter and disk partition modification

  • Support to WAN infrastructure

  • Client-server support, software and hardware upgrades, network administration troubleshooting, and shell script programming.

  • Provide regression testing on new software releases

  • Perform OS compliance with DISA STIGS.

  • Developing/documenting standard operating procedures.

  • Endpoint Protection within Linux and Windows environment

  • Understanding of Linux internals (system calls, file systems, processes, etc.).

  • Understanding of TCP/IP and related protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, SSH, NFS).

Basic Qualifications

  • SECRET clearance required

  • Bachelor’s Degree is highly desired but is not required and 8 years of experience

  • In lieu of Bachelor’s Degree, experience will be considered on a case by case basis

  • System administration experience with RedHat/CentOS 6, 7, and Windows Server 2012 R2 and 2016 is also required (system calls, file systems, processes, etc.).

  • Experience with user account administration, installation and configuration of workstations and peripherals, kernel parameter and disk partition modification, client-server support, software and hardware upgrades, troubleshooting, and shell script programming.

  • Experience working in a large, highly available Linux environment.

  • Experience with enterprise storage architectures.

  • Red Hat certifications are desired and/or related certifications will count toward experience requirement

  • Virtualization experience (VMware vCenter, ESXi, KVM)

  • Experience with JIRA and Confluence.

  • Experience with GIT, Subversion, or other CM system.

  • Experience with Network Information Service (NIS), Network File System (NFS), and Domain Name System (DNS).
