We are in search for a Linux System Administrator - Active TS/SCI Required to work at our customer site at the National Maritime Intelligence Center, Suitland, MD. In this role you will provide specialized Cyber Security and Information Technology (IT) support for IT resources and users, underpinning Scientific and Technical Intelligence (S&TI) analysis and production across the Farragut Technical Analysis Center at the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI).


THE MISSION

To support and maintain Farragut Specialized Mission IT Systems include support to several FARRAGUT TECHNICAL ANALYSIS CENTER (TAC) COMPONENTS. Naval Platforms Department (TAC-2) and Naval Weapons Department (TAC-3) which leverages Specialized Engineering Tools to create Parametric and Engineering Model content persisted as eXtensible Mark-up Language (XML). Engineers use C&P data to create Computer Aided Design (CAD) models at several levels of fidelity (external wireframe, external skin features, internal structure, internal equipment/components, et al). More detailed CAD modeling requires very high-end workstations with highly accelerated graphics cards for rendering.

The Farragut Technical Analysis Center’s Foreign Materiel Exploitation Division (FME) in TAC-3 uses a range of Windows and Macintosh (MAC) Information Technology (IT) assets. FME systems support laboratory equipment such as microscopes, X-rays, network analyzers, schematic generation, electronics analysis, electrical modeling/simulation, 3D laser scanning, CAD modeling, graphics and video software, visual displays, and report production.

THE CHALLENGE (primary responsibilities)

Responsible for the System Administration for TAC LINUX RHEL Mission Applications, including the installation, configuration, administration, support and maintenance of systems, including associated hardware. These responsibilities include management of systems infrastructures, identifying and implementing best practices and recommending system functional specifications, configuration of physical and virtual systems, backup and recovery of IT infrastructure and implementing critical patches, reviewing systems performance logs to identify anomalies and troubleshoot issues.

Coordinate across IT domains and multiple teams (internal and external) and influence Farragut leadership regarding solution design, process and/or approaches to ensuring all Windows and Linux systems are up-to-date, working efficiently and ensure all mission requirements are met.

Other duties include, but are not limited to:

* Management of systems infrastructures, implementing best practices to Identify and recommend system functional specifications, configuration of physical and virtual systems, backup and recovery of IT infrastructure.

* Updating and supporting systems by tuning performance, allocating storage space.

* Implementing critical patches, reviewing systems performance logs to identify anomalies and troubleshoot issues.

*Coordinate across multiple teams (internal and external) and influence Farragut leadership regarding solution design, process and/or approaches to ensuring all Linux systems are up-to-date, working efficiently and ensure all mission requirements are met.

Other areas of responsibility include:

*Backup and Restoration. Ensure no undocumented potential or actual loss of data from Mission Systems thru combination of sound system configurations and scheduled / confirmed backups of Mission Systems, system configurations, and resident data.

*Schedule Maintenance Activities. Plan, schedule, and obtain Government pre-approval for all maintenance activities that may disrupt use of TAC Mission Systems or TAC Mission Applications.

*License serving. Maintain and manage license serving, monitoring, and reporting of licensed TAC-owned Mission Applications.

*Change Management. Provide written recommendations to update mission applications prompted by events such as OS Updates, other software updates, or requests from users for newer functionality recognized as valuable.

*Provision Storage. Liaise with Hopper ISC to provision enterprise public and system related Windows and LINUX-based storage as necessary for TAC-owned Mission Applications.

*Lifecycle replacement of hardware. Analyze systems, and provide a white paper with written recommendations and specifications for the replacement of all system hardware prior to its planned end of life date.

*Desktop Support. Manage the repair, replacement and service of desktop computers, laptops, and computer peripherals associated Farragut Specialized IT not under the care of Hopper Information Services Center.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

*Active DoD S/SCI

*Active Security+ ce or higher certification

*Active RHCA certification

*BS/BS in an IT field and 8+ years of related experience; additional years of related work experience may be considered in lieu of degree

*Proficiency in Linux systems administration to include experience installing, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting current and legacy Linux OS, servers, and desktops (RPM-based) in enterprise environments and Cluster Services to support highly available databses

*Knowledge of Active Directory principals/management/best practices and security concepts to include firewall configurations, server configurations and desktop client applications

*Experience with VMWare setup, configuration, operation and troubleshooting

*Experience with Enterprise Storage Systems, Fiber Channel Switching, NAS and NFS/CIFS, and Data Replication technologies

*Experience with basic and advanced networking concepts/protocols and transport mechanisms

*Experience with installation, maintenance, and extensive troubleshooting of software systems and evaluating, testing and deploying infrastructure hardware and software

*Ability to successfully interface across IT domains to include Technical Services Teams, Application Teams and Business Units.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

*Experience in installing, configuring, and maintaining FLEXnet Manager SW to manage multiple FLEXnet licenses

*CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP)

*VMWare Certified Professtional (VCP)
