The Cary Network Management Center is seeking motivated and driven engineers to support management of Verizon’s Transport network and technologies. We are building and developing onsite training utilizing Verizon’s HR, Vendor support, Tier 2 Technical support, and On the Job training(scripting, and automation)! It is an exciting time at Verizon. Read below on the functions a senior level engineer will perform.

  • Applicants will provide surveillance/maintenance for Verizon’s Global Transport (Layer 0, 1 and 2) networks. Vendors include Coriant, Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Ciena/Nortel and Fujitsu.
  • Technologies include Synchronous Optical Network (SONET), Ethernet, Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), Ultra Long Haul (ULH), Mesh and Digital Cross-Connect technology for both domestic and international facilities.
  • This function is carried out through alarm monitoring, outage management, processing trouble tickets, maintenance scheduling and providing technical assistance to Field Operations on the repair of global transport platforms.
  • The function is also responsible for monitoring the implementation of transport network change control activities and performs pre/post technology checks.
  • Applicant must be willing to work rotating 7x24 hour shifts.
  • Provides technical and/or analytical support to one or more departments or work units with limited supervision; aids in the successful completion of projects within a product or functional area.
  • Performs a variety of activities (may be technical in nature) in support of the functional processes, programs and/or services.
  • Strategic development / tactical implementation of global response plans to network- impacting events.
  • Mentoring individuals for the betterment of the organization.
  • Coaching engineers supporting multiple networks and technologies.
  • Updating and maintaining scheduling.
  • Processing root cause analysis of outages and major network events.
  • Development and/or Testing of Automation or scripting rules.
  • Tactical Outage and Situational Management.
  • Handling special requests.
  • Analyzing and Driving critical transformation business initiatives.

You’ll need to have:

  • Associate’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years or relevant work experience.
  • Willingness to travel.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, business management, engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience in managing multidisciplinary teams and organizational budgets.
  • Experience in the telecommunications industry.
  • Advanced Vendor Certifications.
  • Field Operations experience.
  • Technical knowledge of network equipment and systems.
  • Project Management/Business Analysis experience.
  • Scripting/Automation/Programming Experience.
