Leidos is seeking a Quality Assurance Engineer to support the Maritime System Division (MSD) in Sterling, VA, an AS9100 certified facility. The successful candidate shall work for a hardware-production and integration facility supporting DoD customers. The scope of the business activities includes 25 product lines of rugged displays and computers, integrated rack systems, and consoles, in a high mix/ low rate of production environment for various Navy activities, shipbuilders, and integrators.

Overall, as the Quality Assurance Engineer responsible for implementing the Quality Management System (QMS) and ensuring that industries standards (e.g., ISO, AS9100, CMMI, etc.) and all necessary QMS processes are adequately defined, deployed, and continually improved.

Primary Responsibilities

The candidate shall:

  • Deploy an AS9100 QMS that ensures delivery of quality products that conform to contract requirements. Ensure the practice of quality inspections of in-process production items and finished products is according to written procedures and standards.
  • Responsible for developing, collecting, tracking, and monitoring key performance indicators (KPI’s) (i.e., on-time delivery, Quality Control activities, resources, non-conformances, suppliers, etc.) and reporting to site leadership. Employ statistical analysis, when relevant, for better decisions.
  • Conduct Quality Management Reviews, quarterly. Report on the QMS as implemented and engage site leadership regarding progress towards meeting quality objectives.
  • Support engineering team with Quality Assurance Engineer activities by determining production standards for products to establish quality control systems and setting product requirement guidelines, identify the specifications for an ideal product, determine an appropriate level of variation, and monitor quality performance rates.
  • Coordinate the implementation of QMS with project and functional leaders to define and/or improve processes relating to their areas of responsibility.
  • Coordinate and provide training to the employees on QMS processes and related documentation to ensure understanding and effective practice.
  • Oversee job related training and mitigate deficiencies/risks. Develop training curriculums and ensure employees take the applicable training. Document and retain training assessment results.
  • Interact directly with customers regarding product quality and maintain solid customer relations, as required.
  • Respond to customer and project feedback by incorporating improvements into site practices based on feedback, performance, and lessons learned, evolving industry standards and emerging technology needs.
  • Assist projects in developing and receiving approval on their Tailored Process Baselines (TPBs), when required.
  • Review and analyze quality clauses in requests for proposals and statements of work when proposing future work and in contracts when work is awarded to ensure the Sterling QMS will meet requirements. Define any gaps and implement needed changes with site leadership. Identify requirements to flow down to suppliers.
  • Provide review and input to program plans and other program documents in support of accurate and on-time deliverables.
  • Develop 3-year audit schedules and execute timely quality audits in adherence with the audit schedules and in compliance with Leidos policies and direction. Report audit results to program leadership.
  • Ensure process audits are performed, results documented, and assess opportunities for improvement and corrective actions as necessary.
  • Generate corrective action requests for audit findings and maintain the Common Audit Database (CAD) with timely updates/closures of audit findings.
  • Support the development of Sterling’s supply chains with quality measurements. Conduct on-sight or virtual supplier quality survey for initial evaluation and periodic re-evaluation of Leidos suppliers.
  • Perform incoming inspection, when needed to meet project schedules, of materials to drawings, specification documents, or other requirements documentation.
  • Manage the Non-Conformance process for defective products and materials. Apply defect analysis to investigate, categorize, resolve, and report manufacturing defects.
  • Conducts root cause analysis on trends, customer concerns/CAR/negative CPARs to ensure corrective and preventive actions are performed to prevent recurrence
  • Lead continuous improvement objectives of the Sterling, VA site
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Requires BS and 4 – 8 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 2 – 6 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience implementing AS9100 quality systems
  • Strong communication and analytical skills required
  • Ability to manage many activities simultaneously
  • Ability and willingness to work through issues with all levels of team members
  • Self-starter with attention to detail / observant
  • Able to interpret written specifications and drawings
  • Ability to stand for long period of time
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Must be able to work in normal warehouse/production environment
  • Must be able to obtain Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry quality certification in AS9100, is highly desirable
  • Possess foundational understanding of acceptable quality level (AQL), ISO, Lean, Root Cause Analysis
  • Familiarity with hardware and software development processes
  • Familiarity with DOD quality assurance processes

Proficient in MS Office and ability to learn new systems to support job responsibilities.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $66,300.00 - $102,000.00 - $137,700.00
