What you’ll be doing...

VNOE (Virtual Network Operations/Engineering) SIM-OTA, FIDO and OTAF/OTASP team manages a wide variety of responsibilities pertaining to Device Provisioning (SIM-OTA, OTAF/OTASP) with the goal of providing the highest level of operational and engineering efficiency for our customers. Our team provides all device provisioning services for all devices that reside on the Verizon Wireless network. You will be responsible for ensuring the operational and engineering efficiency of these applications on our network. You will also be creating and disseminating reporting on all specific areas such as change management, capacity management and RCA’s. In a growing world, a cloud based environment, Internet of Things (IoT) and new types of services will require you to think outside the box. You will be directly responsible for assisting in the operation, design and engineering services for these device provisioning services (SIM-OTA, FIDO, and OTAF/OTASP) for our 3G, 4G and 5G networks.

This job is in the VNOE (Virtual Network Operations/Engineering) organization and will work with Commercial Data Systems (CDS) SIM Over the Air (SIMOTA), Fast Identity Online (FIDO) and Over the Air Function (OTAF) Operations support team to diagnose and quickly resolve problems in a highly critical production environment (OS and application level).

  • Create efficient, maintainable solutions for troubleshooting/resolving customer affecting issues.
  • Analyze Verizon Wireless commercial data systems platforms to insure system integrity and maximize system availability.
  • Install application patches and perform platform upgrades.
  • Partner with marketing, development, and technical support organizations to supply service assurance functions (problem management, performance monitoring, product enhancement guidance and recommendations).
  • Engage with vendors and network personnel to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Work effectively both as an individual and as a team member to create successful solutions.
  • Participate in 24X7 on-call rotation.
  • Independently monitor and ensures all active systems, services, devices are operational.
  • Perform late night/early morning system changes.
  • Work in a fast paced and highly visible environment.
  • Tier 3/4 troubleshooting of issues and understand the complete end to end flow of services communicating across the network to/from these platforms.
  • Locating, testing, and onboarding tools across the platforms to triage issues, monitor KPIs, and report capacity metrics to assist in the growth and support of the platforms.
  • Creating timely and accurate written, verbal, and visual reporting (scheduled and ad-hoc) to highlight critical issues and enable efficient strategic management decision-making.
  • Generating application/transport capacity reporting.
  • Developing/maintaining capacity/demand models.
  • Collecting and analyzing performance/usage data and utilizing it to identify any trends.
  • Coordinating growth/expansion engineering and implementation activities.
  • Evaluating Method of Procedure (MOP) documentation from our Vendors to ensure it meets or exceeds operational/engineering efficiencies for such changes.

What we’re looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in engineering or technology, and three or more years of experience working with network technology.
  • Two or more years of experience in system administration of Unix/Linux operating systems.
  • Two or more years of experience with Prometheus, and Grafana.
  • Experience with F5 Local Traffic Manager, BIGIP and BIGIQ.
  • Ability to update and maintain Webpages for in-house tools used for network documentation and monitoring by applying basic knowledge of programming/scripting (e.g., HTML/CSS, JavaScript).
  • Knowledge of scripting and programming languages, i.e. Bash, Perl, Python, PromQL.
  • Three or more years of experience with fundamental packet data concepts ex. TCP/IP and UDP, routing, basic LAN/WAN network connectivity, firewall, DNS.
  • Two or more years’ experience with Kubernetes and Containers.
  • Five or more years of experience in wireless telecommunications and data networking.
  • Two or more years of experience in remote technical support.
  • RHCSA, RHCE, A+, MCSE, CCNA, or related certifications.
  • Experience with a cloud based environment from either an engineering, implementation or operations perspective.
  • Knowledge of Wireless troubleshooting systems such as, Netscout, MARS, MTAS.
  • Interpersonal, analytical, investigative, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative, make sound business decisions.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
