Leidos has openings for talented Operations Engineer - Software to come work in our state-of-the-art facility in Morgantown, WV. The responsibilities for this position include providing subject matter expertise in Kafka and Confluent to multiple Agile development teams supporting a new Department of Defense program. Responsibilities Include:

  • Stand up and administer complex cloud-based and on-premises Confluent Kafka clusters.

  • Provide expertise in Kafka brokers, ZooKeeper, Kafka Connect connectors, Schema Registry and Schema Validation, ksqlDB, Confluent Rest Proxy, and Confluent Control Center.

  • Ensure the optimum performance, high-availability, and reliability of deployments.

  • Create and configure topics, configure replication, deploy monitoring tools, and configure alerts.

  • Perform benchmarking, performance analysis, and tuning.

  • Contribute to design and capacity reviews to right-size deployments.

  • Secure deployed systems according to strict government requirements.

  • Monitor, prevent, and troubleshoot security-related issues.

  • Provide strategic vision in engineering solutions with respect to Kafka / event streaming.


Required Experience, Skills, and Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 8 or more years of software engineering experience or a Master’s Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 6 or more years of software engineering experience. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Fluency in design, implementation, monitoring, and troubleshooting of Kafka messaging systems.

  • Strong working knowledge of the Confluent Platform.

  • Solid experience with containerization and orchestration technologies in complex production environments.

  • Experience building integrations with legacy systems

  • Demonstrated system engineering experience.

  • Strong working knowledge of the AWS services.

  • Good programming knowledge/experience with one or more languages.

  • Ability to guide and mentor team members on using Kafka.

Preferred Experience, Skills, and Education:

  • Knowledge of Agile Development tools such as Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence.

  • Experience developing, testing, and fielding production-grade Kafka Connect connectors.

  • Detailed understanding of ksqlDB configuration, development, and tuning.

  • Understanding of data warehouse architecture and data modelling.

  • Strong skills in in-memory applications, database design, and data integration.

  • Experience working with Air Force/Department of Defense (DoD) customers.

  • Experience working in a multi-level classification environment.

  • Active DoD security clearance.

Clearance Required:

  • Must be a US citizen with ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance

Pay Range:

Pay Range $97,500.00 - $150,000.00 - $202,500.00
