Eaton’s IS VEH Technology division is currently seeking a Lead Embedded Software Engineer - eMobility.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $95247.0 - $139695.6 a year.

What you’ll do:


This Lead Embedded Software Engineer position is responsible for the implementation of embedded software solutions for the IS CoE Centre for Excellence Group supporting Eaton's Automotive growing eMobility division including automotive/ commercial inverters, OBC and DCDC.

Serves as a technical lead in the area of embedded software, Autosar, BSW/MCAL configuration and base software development. This role will be responsible for contribution to prioritization of tasks of self and others. You will review embedded software requirements, contribute to the design of software architecture and produce algorithm solutions, define Validation & Verification strategy; as well as the overall V-cycle process to confirm that system and functional requirements are met. You will be responsible for working with team members and engineering managers to estimate development, resources and timing to achieve the desired results. You will be expected to train and mentor less experienced engineers. You will work with and provide technical directions to Eaton engineering centers globally. Involved in a wide variety of projects, conduct feasibility studies ensuring that objectives and program timings are met. Provide technical support and interface to system, hardware and other departments.


Lead embedded software work for self and may lead others, managing requirements to architecture, configuration/generation/implementation, and validation. Contribute and may lead integration strategy, release schedule and integration test plan following software release plan and supplies release schedule. Evaluate embedded system level requirements and software algorithm proposals to meet product performance (Processor utilization, memory usage), functionality and robustness requirements. Help define and improve embedded coding standards, Configuration guidelines and processes, and contribute to industry technical papers and conferences. Develop test procedures to validate and/or characterize software strategy, performance and efficiency in environments such as Hardware In Loop and Processor In Loop. Co-ordinate with the test labs to execute test plan and acquire data for analysis.

Build and maintain working relationships with the controls and software engineering organization, other functional groups, and customers.

Conduct software defect root-cause analysis, resource profiling, lead implementation and validate corrective actions.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering, Computer Science from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience C/C++ as well as the software development lifecycle.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with embedded software development.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with AutoSAR and its configuration tools, ISO26262, vehicle communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet… etc)
  • Candidates must reside within 50 miles of Southfield, MI . Relocation assistance is not available for this role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • Experience in developing embedded sw for inverters, OBC and/or DCDC a plus
  • Experience with Functional Safety ISO26262 part 6 on software requirement and process
  • Knowledge of vehicle communication protocol Ethernet, CAN, LIN, FlexRay, V2G… etc a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience integrating software with target hardware in a lab environment
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience integrating software with target hardware in a lab environment
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with system level troubleshooting and associated lab experience
  • Working knowledge of Automotive Sector OEM or Tier1 development process.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • The ideal candidate would have experience in, or knowledge of automotive drivetrain/powertrain systems and components.
  • Project management skills to assess task effort, manage priorities, and report status.
  • Good communication skills with ability to interface directly with external partners, suppliers, and both internal and external customers.
  • Experience with change management and software release processes in a team environment.
