Job Description:
The Defense Health Operation of Leidos is currently looking for a Software Engineer with user interface/user experience (UI/UX) development focus to support the Naval Submarine Medical Research Laboratory (NSMRL) in Groton, CT. NSMRL conducts research and investigates the effects of medical, psychological, and performance issues associated with the health and performance of naval personnel in operational and non-operational settings.
Primary Responsibilities
Develop creative solutions for a wide variety of user experience challenges including, but not limited to mobile and desktop web applications.
Design useful, usable, and desirable systems, products and services. This includes working closely with software engineers to realize the design.
Participate in user research activities enabling the team to build an effective understanding of how our end-users use our platform.
Use data, analytics and business requirements to assist the project team in developing user stories and requirements.
Propose design direction and/or assist to define the visual language.
Develop and maintain UI specifications.
Present design work to the engineering team, project team, and PI for review and feedback.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in UI/UX design, human factors engineering, software engineering or related field / certification
4 years of related professional / work experience
Strong HTML and CSS skills
Knowledge of accessibility, usability principles, and interaction design
Ability to create storyboards, wireframes, and prototypes to illustrate design concepts
Excellent communication, presentation, and storytelling skills
Ability to work in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team and directly with developers for implementation of designs
Experience with agile software development environment
Experience with software testing methodologies and frameworks.
The candidate will be required to acquire, at a minimum, a SECRET classification access level. Preference will be given to a candidate who already has this clearance level.
Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of various user research techniques (e.g., user journey mapping, user interviews, contextual inquiry, card sorting, usability testing, etc.)
Knowledge of content strategy, instructional design strategy, and information architecture
A portfolio or samples of work demonstrating illustrations, visual design, web design, or UI solutions for a variety of form factors (including mobile and desktop)
Familiarity with responsive/adaptive/PWA design concepts.
Familiarity with JavaScript, Typescript and the .NET family of languages.
Proficiency with design tools such as Adobe XD and Blend for Visual Studio.
