We are seeking a Director of Distribution Engineering in Atlanta, GA to manage and oversee a team responsible for developing construction work packages for the electric distribution system using various software systems and construction standards. Your teams will work on projects in OH, UG, or URD environments, which may include joint use make-ready and street light projects. Your teams will utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools, Work Management Systems (WMS), and other client systems to develop work packages.

As a Distribution Engineering Director, your team’s project work will require performing engineering calculations such as structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, electric demand, fault currents, and coordination of protective devices. You will also have oversight of assignments such as preparing forestry trimming requests, facilitating permit and Right-of-Way acquisition, developing BOM, estimating costs, and customer advocacy such as acquiring easements or calculating a customer Contribution in Aid of Construction (CIAC).

Some local/customer-related travel is anticipated, including on-site or in-office meetings. Candidates must be located in or around the greater Atlanta area, in order to provide support to internal teams and Leidos’ utility customers as needed

Your Main Objective:

  • 10%-30% Working with Leidos team to improve process, training & mentoring staff.
  • 20% Engineering, development, and quality control of design packages for construction crews.
  • 50%-70% Performing supervisory, business development, planning, managing profit/loss, and/or customer relationship.

What Sets You Apart (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (EE preferred) from an ABET accredited institution
  • Twelve + years of prior relevant experience; Relevant experience is either working directly with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company, performing electric distribution design engineering.
  • Proficient knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and comprehension of client construction standards
  • Experience with Business Development, developing proposals, pricing & client interviews.
  • Successful project management experience (initiate, plan, execute, monitor & control, closeout).
  • Previous Experience managing large engineering teams.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong written, oral and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and provide leadership to other team members; Ability to work effectively in teams made up of individuals of diverse backgrounds

You Might Also Have:

  • Professional Engineer license and/or PMP certification
  • Experience with designing secondary networks.
  • Experience with software such as PoleForeman, Bentley OpenUtilities Designer, GE Smallworld, Maximo, or similar products.
  • Experience with complex projects in distribution design: medium voltage switchgear, voltage conversion projects, distribution automation projects.
  • Experience with development of civil & electrical packages associated with complex cable/conduit in dense urban environments.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $105,300.00 - $162,000.00 - $218,700.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
