Description

Leidos Dynetics is seeking a passionate, detailed-oriented problem-solver to serve as a Systems Engineer to support Docking Systems in the civil space systems of the Space Division. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

Space Division projects include human spaceflight efforts and defense space platforms efforts. The process of docking spacecraft in space is a critical capability for many current and new missions being envisioned both by NASA and the commercial space industry. The Docking Systems Systems Engineer will have a key impact on the design, certification, and operation of docking systems. As an integral member of the Space Division Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) Branch, the successful candidate will leverage digital engineering and systems engineering practices and tools to identify challenges and formulate candidate solutions for spaceflight vehicle docking systems. The systems engineer will coordinate space systems system engineering for prototype development and as-build configurations. This includes definition and application of Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP) defined processes including requirements definition, requirements updates, change requests, verification planning and execution, and acceptance testing. The systems engineer will work to apply systems engineering standard processes and best practices to workflows to efficiently.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide insight to and oversight of the design, analysis, test, manufacturing, and operation of docking systems.
  • Be familiar with the details of the NASA Docking System Block 1 and/or Block 2 docking system designs as needed.
  • Manage System requirement application and updates from Task Order, Specifications and Test Plans
  • Analyze requirements to assess conflicts, gaps, and adequate flow down and decomposition of the program requirements.
  • Participate in design/test/certification reviews and provide specific comments to docking-system related documentation.
  • Support verification and traceability of deliverables back to System Requirements
  • Assist in development of verification plans and process improvements.
  • Develop and maintain a clear understanding of overall system interdependencies and interfaces.
  • Coordinate Docking System interfaces including design, test & verification requirements, linkage to interface requirements, analysis or test results, and acceptable verification closure data.
  • Facilitate configuration management of the technical data package.
  • Review and provide comments to Docking-related Safety Hazard reports, participate in the NASA safety panel reviews.
  • Preparation and/or review of variances, exceptions and/or waivers to NASA requirements.
  • Work in a team environment, oversee team status on progress and issues, and elevate as needed for support.
  • Implement creative solutions to ensure program requirements are upheld.
  • Identify, mitigate and resolve risks.
  • Perform other related job duties as required.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS degree in Systems, Mechanical, Aerospace, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of 12 years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and 10 years of direct engineering experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience with hardware and/or operations in direct engineering experience on space vehicles.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, be able to work in a team, and develop cooperative relationships.
  • System design experience including familiarity with design and analysis tools and testing methods.
  • Ability to track multiple tasks and prioritize work independently.
  • Self-motivation and quick learner to adapt to the broad array of subjects and issues encountered.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with, or exposure to, docking systems and docking operations.

• A working knowledge and experience with ISS, and/or Commercial Crew design and verification documentation and requirements.

• Working knowledge of NASA, ISS standards, practices and requirements including safety, fault tolerance, FMEAs and unique disciplines (i.e. mechanisms, Structures, Materials, etc.).

• Systems Engineering experience/background.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $122,200.00 - $220,900.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
