Job Description:

The Leidos Innovations Center currently has an opening for a Customer Support/Technical Writer to support the Beavercreek, OH office. This is an exciting opportunity to use your talents and experience to help the Skyborg System Design Agent (SDA) Team’s mission to develop the autonomous aircraft control systems for a U.S. Air Force customer by assisting end users by developing documentation of the integration of autonomous control end-user and government-provided unmanned aircraft platforms and providing training and operational documentation to support flight operations. This position will require travel to support end user’s integration and operation of their autonomy-equipped aircraft.

This work is primarily located in Dayton, OH. However, working remotely from the Arlington, VA or Huntsville, AL Leidos offices is possible with occasional travel to Dayton, OH.

Primary Responsibilities

• The Technical Writer will:
o Create and edit internal and external process documentation.
o Support Flight Integration and Test Operations process and technical documentation projects.
o Demonstrate the ability to write clear, concise, and instructive prose.
o Demonstrate the ability to proactively investigate and piece together information to create coherent, useful documentation to support end users.
o Demonstrate the ability to investigate and create documentation on internal tool usage and operational policies.
o Demonstrate the ability to effectively write for different audiences with varying degrees of technical knowledge.
o Demonstrate content management skills - able to identify when documentation needs to be updated based on new project developments
• Additional duties include Field support to end users, such as:
o Conduct pre-flight planning to include mission briefings, test card review/development, and validating airspace requirements match test objectives.
o Conduct demonstration/test flights of autonomous functions.
o Complete post-mission reports/logs
o Collect defects to record variances to specifications.
o Create defect reports, monitors quality statistics and creates associated reports.
o Assists in the creation of flight test reports.
o Conduct and document maintenance actions for supporting systems.
o Conduct inventory of autonomy spares/components and reports cycle counts.
o Conduct on-site formal/informal technical training.

• Field support to end users requires the ability to perform the following physical requirements:
o Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs unassisted for short distances.
o Ability to work in small, cramped spaces.
o Ability to bend and /or twist legs, arms and body within normal range of motion.
o Ability to stand and walk without rest for at least two hours.
o Ability to perform required job duties outdoors in conditions that may include extreme high and low temperatures, rain, snow, and high winds.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as contract/program requirements dictate.

Basic Qualifications

• BS in Computer Science/Engineering, Aeronautical Science, or related field
• Technical writing experience
• Two years of relevant work experience in software development
• U.S. Citizenship
• Eligible for DoD Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Four years of relevant work experience
• Relevant experience writing technical materials for software-related projects
• Relevant experience writing UAS operations and training manuals
• UAS operations experience
• UAS training experience
• Linux, C++, Python, Bash, Powershell, Wireshark, Containerization, and/or Virtualization experience
• Current DoD Secret clearance
