Description

Install, troubleshoot, document, repair and maintain communication systems and miscellaneous electronic equipment. Work may be performed in any of the following areas: Land Mobile Radio, Microwave, Telephone, Fiber Optics, Synchronous Optical Network (SONET), Radio Frequency Interference (RFI), Data Communications, Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI) and miscellaneous electronics.

Essential Functions

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Install, maintain, repair, and test all aspects of fiber optics, including cable splicing, transport equipment, wave division multiplexing, operating power, source meters and OTDR's.

Install, maintain, repair and test tele­metering and SCADA communications equipment in Central Lincoln's substa­tions, mountaintops and office facilities. Complete other related work as directed.

Install, maintain, test and repair portable, mobile, base and microwave radio systems.

Install, test, splice, operate, configure and maintain Central Lincoln's fiber optic system.

Install camera systems in substations and other facilities.

Locate radio frequency inter­ference reported by customers.

Maintain and repair communications systems (phone system).

Climb towers up to 185 feet tall.

Knowledge, Skill, & Ability

Knowledge of:

  • Federal Communications Commission (F.C.C.) regula­tions pertaining to the op­eration and mai­ntenance of radio transmitters.
  • Analog and di­gital telemetering sys­tems and SCA­DA equip­ment.
  • Safety rules and procedures.
  • Conventional Optical Networking and fiber optic Wave Division Multiplexing technologies.
  • TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol and Internet Protocol) networking concepts and applications in 802.x (Ethernet) environments.

Skill in:

  • Use of hand tools/power tools, radio, fiber and teleph­one testing equip­ment.
  • Use of fre­que­ncy che­ck­ing equip­me­nt and adjusting set to frequency li­mits.
  • Use of electronic test equipment (DMM/Scope Meter etc.).
  • Use of personal com­puters/laptops/managed switches and programmable con­trollers as used in con­trol sys­tems.

Ability to:

  • Comprehend and effective­ly work from com­plex electri­cal and electr­onic drawings.
  • Locate cau­ses of equipment malfunc­tions and make repairs.
  • Communicate clearly, concisely, effectively and respectfully, both orally and in writing.
  • Work independently and as a team member with diverse staff throughout the organization.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to internal and external clients of diverse backgrounds.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers and coworkers.

Minimum Qualifications & Progression
  • This position requires an F.C.C. General Radio Telephone License, or the ability to obtain within one year. Must have a minimum of five (5) years' experience in the installation and repair of one (1) or more of the following: Microwave systems and multiplexers; WAN/LAN network equipment; VHF fixed station and mobile radio; Telephone systems.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills and abilities required for the position will be considered in lieu of the outlined requirements.
