About the Opportunity

This is an open position with Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

JCP&L is hiring First Class Mechanics in multiple locations throughout New Jersey.

Shift Hours are: 7AM- 3:30 PM and 3PM - 11:30PM.


We are looking for Diesel mechanics with at least 4 years’ experience on construction/industrial equipment. We are hiring experienced field/shop Technicians who are able to maintain equipment operation by completing inspections, preventive maintenance requirements, correcting vehicle deficiencies, keeping records, diagnosing electrical, mechanical, hydraulic systems.


Duties:
• Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.

• Keeps equipment (forklifts, dirt movers, man lifts, cranes, trucks, generators, welders, trailers, etc.) ready for customer use by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing components, parts up grades, correcting vehicle deficiencies, verifying vehicle performance, maintaining vehicle appearance, keeping records.

• Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, emission, brake, steering, hydraulics; completing machine shop operations; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.

• Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.

• Complies with Federal and State vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.

• Maintains vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.

• Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.

• Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.

Requirements:
• High School Diploma or GED required.

• Must have 4-6 years’ experience as a truck mechanic.

• Must have a valid driver’s license.

• Must be able to obtain a Class “A” CDL License.

• Must possess proficient computer skills.

• Absolutely demonstrate a solid commitment to Safety.

• Must be available to support in storm operations and provide mutual assistance when needed, after hours, weekends, and holidays is required.


Qualifications:
• Experience as a certified mechanic in the overhaul, maintenance and repair of automotive, trucks, hydraulic equipment, and aerial equipment, off road equipment and/or equivalent is preferred.

• Must have good technical understanding and attention to detail.

• Must possess good analytical, written, and oral communication skills

• Must have strong organizational skills for planning and coordinating multiple activities.

• Must be willing to work shifts and overtime when needed.

• Strong understanding of the Operation, Diagnose and Maintenance of Air Brake Systems.
