This mid-range role is customer-focused and is your starting spot for multiple career paths within our Service business with training on our newest product updates.
We are looking for a Diesel Engine Technician to be located at our Joplin, MO branch.
IMPORTANT NOTE:This is a second shift role and the regular schedule for this position will be Mon-Fri 3:30pm to 12:00am. This schedule is subject to change based on business needs.
Completes repairs and rebuilds on engine products in a service workshop under supervision
Applies documented procedures and policies to complete basic repairs and schedule maintenance, including preparing required parts and tools
Disassemble and clean engines and /or engine components
Assists with completion required documentation, such as work completed documentation, time sheets, warranty claims and quality forms, via handwritten forms or business system input screens
Completes training in line with skill and business requirements
Maintains work area and tools for cleanliness and proper operation
Ensure adherence to all relevant Health, Safety & Environmental policies, procedures and legislation and reports any issues / incidents to their supervisor
Skill Level A
Broad mechanical and /or electrical repair and maintenance capability - Apprentice Certified Diesel (Preferred)
Capable of external engine mechanical repair and maintenance with minimal supervision - practical exposure to working on diesel engines
Awareness of Quick Serve Process
Able to understand basic computer use
Able to clearly communicate both orally and in writing
Able to understand written instructions
Ability to work safely and identify safety risks, including completion of any requires safety training and the Job Safety Assessment process
Can resolve basic technical problems
Able to work within quality standards
Capable of developing effective working relationships
Ability to use general numerical principles
Skill Level B
Skill Level A plus:
Ability to carry out basic repairs and scheduled maintenance on different product types without supervision
Able to understand diagnostic tools
Awareness and ability to access Cummins service support tools (such as Quick Serve On Line) and understanding of Microsoft Software
Able to prepare required documentation to the standard required
Education, Licenses, Certifications
Apprentice Trained Engine Technician (Preferred)
Vocational diploma from relevant technical institution
Locally valid driving permit (Preferred)
Minimal level of work shop experience required
Basic level knowledge of and/or experience with engine products
Possession of, or the ability to attain, a CDL within 60 days of hire is required.

This position requires a technical/trade school degree from an accredited program or equivalent work experience.
This Position is a bargain unit role and is represented by a union.
Qualifications for different technician levels
Technician Level I : Limited relevant diesel technician experience; qualified to perform work on a minimal number of products in-scope for an In Shop Technician at this location; primarily engaged in maintenance or basic repairs/diagnostics; requires direct supervision and review of workmanship quality.
Technician Level II: Some relevant diesel technician experience; qualified to perform work on an intermediate number of products in-scope for an In Shop Technician at this location; primarily engaged in moderately complex maintenance and repair; some exposure to moderate or complex diagnostics, requires limited direct supervision, may provide basic training or guidance to new technicians.
Technician Level III: Significant relevant diesel technician experience; qualified to perform work on most or all of products in-scope for an In Shop Technician at this location; frequently engaged in complex diagnosis and repair; requires minimal to no supervision; ability to effectively train and guide less experienced technicians of varying skillsets.
