The Associate Director reports to the Director of the Environmental Sustainability Center of Excellence (CoE) within Global Safety & Environment (GSE). The position is responsible for driving environmental sustainability strategies, programs and initiatives to achieve the company’s external sustainability commitments. In this global role, the Associate Director supports and influences business leaders and colleagues in all divisions of the company, follows external sustainability trends, tracks sustainability-related regulations and risks, networks with external sustainability professionals, and supports internal and external communications regarding the company’s environmental sustainability programs and performance.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
Collaborates with business units to identify and implement environmental sustainability programs to ensure the company meets its external commitments. Interfaces with business leaders and peer colleagues in GSE, Corporate Responsibility, Energy Management, Facilities Management, Procurement, Research, Packaging, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Marketing and Policy.
Leads efforts to achieve environmental sustainability goals by analyzing data, tracking progress, identifying and prioritizing actions needed to achieve targets, gaining organizational support for initiatives and projects, and communicating progress to the broader organization.
Prepares external reports to disclose the company’s environmental sustainability programs and performance.
Leads projects to build internal knowledge of the environmental footprint of the company’s operations, supply chain, products and packaging, including life-cycle assessments.
Benchmarks with peer pharmaceutical companies, other industries and non-governmental organizations to identify external trends and business opportunities/threats with respect to environmental sustainability. Represents the company at external sustainability meetings and forums.
Recognizes and responds to evolving environmental sustainability trends, market conditions, regulatory requirements, etc. Evaluates and integrates the information to proactively identify actions needed to address any potential impacts on company operations, products and businesses.
Education Minimum Requirement:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science (required)
Master’s degree in Business or Science (preferred)
Required Experience and Skills:
10-15 years of work experience in pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing industry
In-depth knowledge of global sustainability trends
Proven ability to drive sustainability programs in a large organization, engage employees and influence senior leaders
Strong leadership, change execution and project management skills with a track record of successful cross-functional collaboration
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Multi-media environmental regulatory and compliance experience (air, water, waste, etc.)
