Sr. Specialist, Compensation & Benefits Data Management

Overview

As part of the Compensation & Benefits Operations team, you play a key role in the exceptional delivery of Merck’s Total Rewards program to employees and their families.

The Senior Specialist, Compensation & Benefits Data Management is a role essential to the sustainability and success of our total rewards programs. This role will initially be focused on supporting our US retirement programs (DB & DC) and eventually expand to include other compensation & benefits programs as we progress in our journey to Workday. Strong collaboration is also required with other teams in HR Operations, Finance, and with our numerous external suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide thought leadership around total rewards data management activities to enable the coordination and delivery of reliable data for internal decision making and compliance purposes

  • Direct activities across benefits operations to ensure cohesive support of benefits data collection, review, and reporting

  • Participate in continuous improvement activities, defining and implementing the changes required to evolve our total rewards administration capabilities

  • Represent the Company in interactions with key external partners including our benefits administration suppliers and regulatory bodies including the IRS and DOL related to benefit plan audits documentation of controls

  • Lead cross-functional teams during M&A which relate to new implementations and changes to existing data interfaces

  • Drive data initiatives in our financial benefits programs to build a progressive, personalized participant experience

  • Translate policy and program changes into data integration requirements

  • Identify areas of downstream risk related to data quality and initiate remediation efforts to correct upstream behavior and processes

Education & Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required

  • Minimum of 6 years of work experience in HRIS & data management, benefits administration, workforce analytics, or related fields

  • Workday experience is preferred

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of US benefits programs, including health & welfare benefits, qualified and non-qualified DB & DC retirement plans, and retiree medical plans

  • Deep understanding of HCM processes and data integrations which drive effective benefit plan administration, with the ability to assimilate and analyze large, complex data sets

  • Ability to articulate plan controls for external and internal compliance purposes related to IRS, DOL, and SOX requests

  • Effective in remediating data integrity gaps through root cause analysis

  • Versed in the linkage of benefits administration with payroll processes

  • Strong functional leadership, judgment, and problem-solving skills
