Job Summary

AECOM at Kennedy Space Center, Florida is in search of a Boiler Plant Operator/Mechanic for the ISC Contract.


Independently operate, maintain, modify, trouble-shoot and repair boilers, steam and hot water generators, distribution systems, accessories and components. Read meters and gauges and adjust controls to maintain proper operating conditions. Record data such as temperatures, pressures, hours of operation, fuel consumption and analysis of flue gases. Perform lubrication of motors, fans and accessories. Repair and rebuild boilers and associated equipment using portable power and hand tools when necessary. Calibrate boiler plant instrumentation and system controls using electronic, mechanical, chemical and electrical test equipment. Test and treat boiler feed water with specified chemicals. Performs any work assigned to the employees in the classification. Perform work in other classifications when incidental but necessary to accomplish work assignments.

Performs duties in compliance with Federal, State, local, NASA and Air Force laws and regulations and requirements and KSC/CCAFS energy management conservation regulations, collective bargaining agreements, security, safety, hurricane and other specialized programs or contractual requirements relating to the business of the section, working within the limits of established policy.


  1. Work from verbal information, blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, technical publication, instruction bulletins, and applicable national, state and municipal specifications, codes and ordinances.

  2. Make inspection when requested for essential preventative maintenance.

  3. Inspect, maintain or repair special tools, jigs, fittings and instruments assigned.

  4. Perform minor insulation with prefabricated mineral insulating material, bindings, plastic, cement, etc. as required.

  5. Maintain logs, records, charts, etc., as required.

  6. Must maintain security clearance, area permit(s), licenses, certifications, etc. required for performance of assigned tasks.

  7. Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License.

  8. Performs other related and/or associated duties as required.

This classification may include managing hazardous materials or other environmental responsibilities.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Some outside work may be required where machinery and tools are used and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Requirements


High School diploma or equiv. with specialized training from a vocational, community

college, or accredited institution. Five years related experience.
