Chenega Professional and Technical Services is seeking a General Clerk III for USDA

Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to provide administrative assistance related to the implementation of Farm Bill programs to one or more work units, an area office, or the state office. Program support specialists in Kentucky will provide a wide range of program support services which include but are not limited to: assisting agency staff with program documentation; utilizing a variety of computer hardware and custom software applications to extract information and develop reports; providing information and guidance to program applicants and participants; reviewing applications and contracts for completeness and accuracy; monitoring and tracking critical dates and timelines with regard to implementation of Farm Bill program; and communicating with customers with regard to contract management activities. General Clerk III may work directly with local conservation partners, Farm Services Agency program technicians, and NRCS field office personnel as well as NRCS customers in order to complete assigned tasks and provide requested services.

  • Assist agency staff with program documentation such as processing documents and correspondence, checking documents for accuracy and completeness, gathering information, reconciling payment documents, recording data, establishing and maintaining files, transmitting information, and performing other related tasks.

  • Utilize a variety of computer hardware and custom software applications such as ProTracts, NEST, FMMI, Customer Service Toolkit, FA Tracker, Conservation Client Gateway, Conservation Desktop, and/or other agency developed tools to extract information needed to develop reports related to scheduling, program tracking, fund management, or other similar topics.

  • Provide a variety of information to program applicants and participants such as specific program and eligibility requirements and guidance on completion of required program applications, adjusted gross income (AGI), and system for award management (SAM), and other required documents.

  • Assist customers with registering for and using Conservation Client Gateway to conduct business with NRCS.

  • Review applications, contracts, and payment requests for Farm Bill programs to ensure required information and forms are present and gathering missing items to create complete information packages.

  • Monitor and track critical dates and timelines with regard to implementation of Farm Bill program contracts and preparing letters and other notifications related to contract management activities.

  • Identify potential problems and notifying the appropriate NRCS staff member so that action can be taken.

  • The contractor will be required to drive a government owned or GSA-leased vehicle to perform mission related tasks.

  • Additional locations from which the contractor may work include: Hopkins County (Madisonville); Trigg County (Cadiz); Lyon County (Eddyville); Caldwell County (Princeton); Livingston County (Salem); and Crittenden County (Marion). Note that the contractor’s primary duty station will be in Christian County, and the contractor will report to the Hopkinsville Service Center in Christian County prior to driving to any other duty location.

  • Assignments will be made by the Supervisory Natural Resource Manager for the Pennyrile Work Unit and/or the Assistant State Conservationist for Field Operations in Area 1. Additional work assignments may come from other employees as well. Support may also be provided to other work units within Area 1.

  • Minimum of a high school diploma.

  • 4 years of clerical experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Skillful in working with the general public.

  • Capable of working independently.

  • Possess basic telephone skills.

  • Attention to details.

  • Proficient in software applications, such as Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
