The Director of Merchandise Planning works with cross functional teams to develop business strategies with the primary goal of driving profitability through increased sales, improved margins, and efficient management of inventory. To achieve this goal, the Director of Merchandise Planning will be accountable for identifying risks and opportunities and making recommendations to the retail business for improvement.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead and develop a team of five merchandise planners aligned to five retail product divisions with offices in Lakeville, MN and Bowling Green, KY.

  • Collaborate with Merchandise Division Directors, Product Managers, and Inventory Replenishment teams to develop and implement annual/seasonal/monthly/weekly merchandise plans (sales/margin/inventory/space allocation).

  • Collaborate with Merchandise and Inventory teams to assess the business, including analysis of historical data and current trends to capitalize on new opportunities.

  • Lead consolidation of departmental financial forecasts to provide holistic evaluation of the financial plan and forecast.

  • Lead annual merchandise financial planning process.

  • Collaborate with inventory management to ensure execution of inventory plan.

  • Work with space planning team to analyze and recommend improvements to space planning efficiency with an emphasis on planogram productivity and go forward strategy.

  • Develop product lifecycle analysis to assist merchants with improved markdown timing and execution.

  • Partner with Finance and Planning Leadership to develop planning process improvements, standardizations and best practices.

  • Coordinate with finance and store operations to align on financial targets and clearly communicate goals and direction to stores.

  • Collaborate with Supply Chain to support distribution demand planning.

  • Build strong partnerships with cross-functional teams (Merchandising, Inventory, Finance, Marketing, Store Ops, E-Commerce, Supply Chain, Space Management) around strategy, execution and business management.

  • This position reports to the Vice President of Merchandise Planning & Inventory Control.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field with 8+ years of progressive experience in retail merchandising, planning, or inventory management with 3+ years managing multiple direct reports.

  • Strong financial management and planning skills.

  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making abilities.

  • Desire and ability to work in fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Agility in leadership, able to execute on ambiguity and drive improvement.

  • Adaptability to change with ability to manage multiple priorities and responsibilities.

  • Effective and practical written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively, independently, and serve as a collaborative team member.

  • Effective time management skills and a proven ability to interact with various levels of management.

  • Experience using retail planning software along with excellent Excel and PC skills.

  • Ability to travel up to 20%.
