- The Cardiologist will provide medical services to patients at Langley AFB.
Duties and Responsibilities:
CLINIC: Diagnose, treat, and intervene in diseases in or of the heart and cardiovascular system in the clinical setting.
Prepare and review case histories and clinical records.
Perform diagnostic procedures including x-ray examinations, Computerized Axial Tomography (CAT) scans, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and clinical laboratory tests.
Provide such treatment for internal diseases as medications, physical therapies, dietary regimens, and other therapies accepted in cardiology.
Initial evaluation, consultation, and follow-up care.
Performance and interpretation of noninvasive cardiology evaluation including Electrocardiogram (EKG), holter monitors, treadmills, echocardiographs, nuclear perfusion imaging and CT coronary angiography
Follow and provide medical care for the internal medicine problems of cardiology patients.
Coordinate cardiology services with other health related activities within the hospital facility.
Provide consultation services to the Emergency Department and outpatient clinics/departments.
Coordinate and provide Cardiac Rehabilitation Services for a population of patients.
Provide medical oversight of Cardiology department and services provided.
Participate in patient education programs coordinated by the facility, where applicable.
INPATIENT SERVICES: Provide inpatient cardiology consultation, services, and intensive treatment modalities during normal scheduled hours of performance, to include during on-call hours.
Perform the full range of cardiology, including temporary pacemaker insertion.
Participate in teaching programs, where applicable
Provide in-service training class for the medical staff consisting of physician assistants, interns, residents, a full range of medical specialists if requested by the medical director.
Consult with appropriate specialists.
Write initial admission orders and completes appropriate documentation in Essentris.
Utilize paraprofessionals as appropriate.
Respond to and provide management of cardiopulmonary arrests.
Interpret: electrocardiograms, exercise stress tests, halter monitor tests and cardiac monitoring.
Perform and interpret echocardiograms including stress/dobutamine echocardiograms.
Provide basic radiographic interpretation.
Perform arterial puncture.
Perform infiltration of local anesthesia.
Provide performance of closed cardiac massage.
Emergency Skills: Including but not limited to endotracheal intubation, cardioversion, and cricothyrotomy airway.
Prescribe and administer medications
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications: (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.)
Qualifying medical degree, MD/DO
Completion of an Internal Medicine Residency Program
Completion of a Fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease
Current Board Certification in Cardiovascular Disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine or current board certification in Cardiology by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiology.
Must be licensed in a US jurisdiction; License must be in good standing, and under no clinical restrictions with the state licensure board in any state in which a license is held or has been in held in the last ten (10) years.
Must possess controlled substances registration certificate from the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
Must be currently certified in:
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have knowledge, skill and ability to perform the full range of cardiology services.
Ability to read, understand, speak and write English fluently.
Knowledge of the administrative requirements for proper documentation and coding procedures.
Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and basic computer skills.

The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment.
During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
