We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Industrial Hygienist with our Manufacturing Facility located in La Porte, Texas.

Job Duties:

  • Provide overview to the five OxyVinyl Houston Plants for compliance with all applicable health related regulations including HAZCOM, Hearing Conservation, Respiratory Protection, PPE and Exposure Monitoring to include Asbestos and VCM.

  • Institute, administer, and evaluate the Industrial Hygiene program at all five OxyVinyl Houston plants (Battleground C/A, Deer Park VCM, LaPorte VCM, Deer Park PVC and Pasadena PVC).

  • Coordinate all aspects of comprehensive exposure assessment process including basic characterization, qualitative risk assessment monitoring, data analysis, recommendation development, and documentation.

  • Coordinate all aspects of an exposure control system to include evaluation of new materials, evaluation of process changes, investigation of substitution of processes and chemicals, engineering controls, PPE and Respiratory Protection.

  • Audit and oversee progress of corrective action programs from scope preparation through full implementation and conduct follow-up monitoring to determine performance relative to design criteria.

  • Administer the Heat Stress Program for all OxyVinyl Houston plants, providing guidance on work rest cycles and daily forecast for thermal stress during increase temperature months (Apr – Oct).

  • Manage the Mold, Lead, and Ergonomic Programs for all OxyVinyl Houston plants

  • Provide recommendations and background information to operations personnel relative to maintenance of equipment, procedures, records, etc., required by standards.

  • Maintain the record system that documents results from air and noise sampling.

  • Review and approve with recommendations of all incoming SDSs on all chemicals.

  • Review and approve or recommend alternative PPE, to include gloves, suits, boots, googles, hearing protection, and respiratory protection for the plants.

  • Oversee maintenance of the Ventilation Hood Inspection program.

  • Manage the Respiratory Protection/Breathing Air Program for all OxyVinyl Houston Plants, to include supervising the Respiratory/PPE Technician.

  • Promote and support a safe, healthy and environmentally responsible work environment that includes supporting continuous improvement of the quality process.

  • Responsible for coordinating industrial hygiene communications and training.

  • Support the Process Safety and Risk Management goals and objectives. Participate in site-wide Process Safety and Risk Reduction activities as requested. Look for opportunities to be a “fresh set of eyes” in this area.

  • Submit requisitions in SAP for health and safety supplies and equipment.

  • Other duties as assigned.



  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering or related field

  • Minimum of 5 years practical experience in an industrial setting, preferably the chemical industry

  • Ability to understand and operate computerized systems and databases

  • Ability to read, write and speak in English

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Good working knowledge of SAP preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team

  • Ability to work weekends and holidays; and respond to callouts

Physical requirements

  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs., climb ladders and stairs. Walking, bending, stooping is required

  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator

  • Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms
