We are looking to recruit a Principal Transport Planner/ Modeller within our Transport Planning Business in our Leeds office. The Transport Planning team is expanding to meet the demands of our wide portfolio of clients – from both within the UK and overseas. This role has been created to meet existing demands and is intended to grow significantly over time, offering unlimited career progression potential for the right person. We would consider the role on either a full or part-time basis and are happy to look at a range of different working patterns.
The ideal candidate will come from an analytical background, such as mathematics, economics, geography, or engineering, and will have extensive experience in transport planning and modelling as well as the key responsibilities listed in this recruitment notice. We value a combination of analytical and communication skills, with a creative approach to problem-solving, and are seeking an individual with an in-depth appreciation of their chosen area with excellent knowledge of wider transport planning, and experience of small to medium sized project management. Our Transport Planning teams plan and evaluate future transport schemes, forecast demand and revenue, develop business cases, undertake economic appraisal, as well as look at the relationships between spatial planning and transport. We undertake transport modelling at a national and regional level right down to detailed micro-simulation where individual roads and public transport systems are analysed.
Our current UK public sector clients include the Department of Transport, Transport for London, the Highways Agency, Transport for Scotland as well as a host of local authorities and London boroughs within England. Our Leeds team, where this post will be based, works closely with a number of local authorities across Yorkshire. We have the benefit of being on a number of local authority frameworks and these provide a constant stream of local opportunities.
The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the Job / Project Accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standard:
Project management (delivering major transport planning and modelling projects in the relevant technical area to quality standards, on-time, and within budget).
Interact and co-ordinate with other business lines on various multi-disciplinary transport projects.
Supervision of workload and support to junior project managers.
Developing Technical and Financial Proposals on new projects.
Task management of specifying, supervising, analysing and reporting on a range of quantitative and qualitative exercises.
Provide specific technical leadership in an area of expertise
Membership or working towards membership of a chartered professional institution,
A degree in an analytical background, such as mathematics, economics, geography or engineering,
A masters degree or PhD in Transport Planning or engineering is desirable,
Experience in helping clients develop transport strategies at local, regional or national levels
Experience in production of successful bidding documents and / or business cases
Experience in a number of relevant transport planning and software packages e.g. SATURN, EMME, PARAMICS, VISSIM, CUBE, VISUM, TUBA, etc.is desirable but not essential
Experience in transport modelling and forecasting of highway and/or public transport demand and supply,
Experience of presenting to large audiences.
Leadership in producing quality client reports to a high technical standard.
Capability to manage client contact and liaison without supervision.
Experience in appraisal and evaluation of transport proposals to current DfT standards
Ability to manage medium sized projects.
Ability to produce medium sized competitive proposals.
Delivery of projects to budget and programme.
Good risk identification and management skills.
Ability in line management and small team management.
Proven leadership experience in a number of areas within transport planning and depth of knowledge in specific areas.
Degree or Masters Degree in Transport Planning, Geography, Mathematics or Engineering.
